TheRPGsite's Official Anniversary Thread

Hello all.

It was one year ago today that I took over this site, and, for all intents and purposes, that theRPGsite was truly born.

So I'd say that we've surpassed expectations for this site in the past year. There are a few technical issues that keep being a problem, and obviously there's always room for us to improve in different ways.

But here's the essential accomplishments of this site in the past year:

1. We actually turned this place into a viable forum with enough critical mass of posting that it will continue to draw new readers and create enough momentum of posts and threads to keep the forum "alive".

2. We have managed to created a place where the emphasis is on Regular Roleplaying, the mainstream RPG games that most people enjoy, without leaving out any other kind of discussion, but without letting minority elements come in and take control.

3. We've vexed the Swine, who have come here and continue to come here hoping to either take over the conversations here or harm this place in one way or another; but its one year later, and here we are.

4. Most importantly: We haven't banned a SINGLE person. We've proven that you can have a place where open and free speech is respected and intelligent conversation can be had; conversations that are a damn sight more interesting and intelligent than on certain other "emotionally safe" sites, without having to suffer the fascism those other sites submit themselves to because some small clique of moderators have told them the LIE that you have to have heavy-moderation to stop the place from falling to pieces or to stop Yog-Sothoth from showing up or god knows what. The point is, over here, we've proven that's a lie, and that there's no conflict between having a good message forum and respecting free speech first and foremost.

So, Feliz Cumpleaños to all of us.
