This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So this is the official logo of theRPGsite Gaming Product of Distinction Award:

And YOU can put it on your RPG product, on the cover, to show everyone that you've won a fancy RPG award!

What do you have to do to earn it, you ask? Will you have to lick some judge's ass, or bribe people, or carefully finesse a group of influential people on a self-important gaming website, currying favor in order to hopefully have them favor you in turn with their votes?  Will you have to send product, or pay money, give away irrelevant extra swag, or lick boots on a podcast, all in the hopes of getting into the inner circle of people who constantly award each other awards for self-benefit?

No!  All you have to do is this:

STEP 1: post the name of your product on this thread.  It must be a Role Playing Game (as defined by theRPGsite), a Sourcebook, Adventure, or RPG Supplement book.  It must be a commercial for-sale product. It must have a print edition (including PoD; but it can't just be PDF-only).

STEP 2: Put the logo above somewhere on the cover of the print edition of your product.

That's it! Follow those two steps and you too will have won theRPGsite RPG Product of Distinction award, which is as valuable as any other RPG award in the hobby, and much more honest!  The fancy logo will help you generate sales from people who are easily impressed, which is exactly the same worth of any other RPG award.

Good luck!

Why, Thank you. I'm proud to have been a small part of what should grow into an incredible awards program. I can't wait until the official TV special is aired.

I am happy to provide other formats (outside the original PSD file). I could make some larger quality JPGs, PNGs, or others as requested.

Pundit - do you want me to create a Dropbox share with said other formats? Or would you like to create a share somewhere else? If so, how might I deliver them to you?

The dropbox would probably be fine, I would think.

Obviously it'll take some time for the first product to earn this award to emerge.  I'll pin this eventually.

Meanwhile, on G+ someone asked if it had to be on the front cover.  No. The logo has to be on the cover, but it can be the front or back cover.  The front cover is usually more visible in store displays, mind you...

Sacrosanct

I suspect it will have the side benefit of keeping all the SJW away too ;-)
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Does the product have to be available in advance (i.e., if I'm going to issue a game next week, can I post here this week and ship the first book with the logo before anyone on this site sees its content)?

Does anyone review the content to be sure it meets the definition of one of those four kinds of books, and does a review copy have to be supplied?

What happens (besides mockery and criticism) if it's attached to a book that's only about a different kind of game and this is only discovered later?

Does the posting here have to include how to buy it, to demonstrate that it is a commercial product, and how available does it have to be to be commercial?

What is the PDF version allowed to do with the award: nothing, allude to it, include the logo on a PDF that is equivalent to the print version, or include it on all PDF versions as long as there is also a print version?

Is there any plan for a related award for other RPG related books, such as histories of the role playing hobby?

(Purely theoretical questions, as I have no plans to publish anything.)

The product doesn't have to be available in advance, only a description is needed when you register it here. But note that until you actually publish the book with the logo you have NOT yet earned theRPGsite Product of Distinction Award, and cannot claim you have.   As soon as there's a print version of your book for sale with the logo, you can.

No review copy is necessary. Of course, I'm a pretty well known reviewer, and suggest that another good way to generate sales besides having a logo that says  you won an award, probably a slightly more legitimate way to generate sales, is to get a review from me!

As to whether it fits the categories, we go on the honor system. But if it is found that your book does not fit one of those categories, or is not an RPG (or for an RPG), then the award and your right to publish the logo on your cover will be rescinded.

QuoteDoes the posting here have to include how to buy it, to demonstrate that it is a commercial product, and how available does it have to be to be commercial?

It has to be available in print at the time of publishing, either through a traditional print run with distribution, or by print-on-demand.   So if its for sale on Amazon, on Lulu, Indie Press, or through a distributor to FLGSes, then its ok.
You don't strictly have to show where it could be bought, but you can include a link to your page or point-of-sale if you want.

QuoteWhat is the PDF version allowed to do with the award: nothing, allude to it, include the logo on a PDF that is equivalent to the print version, or include it on all PDF versions as long as there is also a print version?

It can be included on any PDF that is the PDF version of the print version.  If a pdf is not the same as the print version in the sense of being a different edition, you can't use the logo.  If its only different in some very minor sense (like having color illustrations instead of b&w) you can use the logo.

QuoteIs there any plan for a related award for other RPG related books, such as histories of the role playing hobby?

no.

  • 30% at 98 x 98

The print format (TIFF) is available full size 325 x 325 in the following types (all at or around 1.5MB in size);

I didn't include layers in these TIFFs, however they are saved without compression, so the quality should be excellent.

Hardly. It'll be a neon light saying, 'pick me apart in the least charitable way possible!' to some of the SA crowd.

Sadly, I think you're right.  I can easily see people seeing that logo and automatically assuming that the creator is some sort of -ist, if judging by the previous witch hunts are any indicator.
