Several folks around here like PIG's dicepool-based fantasy game Iron Gauntlets and have talked it up from time to time. Is anybody actually playing this game, or is IG an 'RPGsite Darling'? I talk about games I don't play all the time on my blog, so I'm not tryng to harsh anyone's buzz here. I'm just curious how much of the love for this game is based on actual play and how much is based upon how the game looks on paper.
Jong is involved in a writing project with them, and I'm not entirely sure if HE's ever actually run the thing.
I sure as hell know I haven't.

It was recommended to me in a thread where I looked for a FRPG. What I've seen wasn't that bad, but it just didn't fill a niche for me. For low-granularity systems I can resort to Savage Worlds or D6.
Part of the popularity is the availability of the designer online. If you think you got a chance of discussing the game with the actual people who wrote it, it definitely feels more accessible. Well, on the other hand there was the recent rpg.net thread that got rather ugly for my tastes...
I'm preparing a game; I just need the time to run it. WIth the holidays coming up, my wife's schedule (she works retail) is gonna get really, really crazy.
I've run it, and it rocks.

Anyone wants to run an online game, I'll play.

I'm with the orange guy.

Oh, you will. Trust me. ;)
I've run Active Exploits a few times, for one shots, and might be trying out Story Engine shortly - both from the same publisher.
But not Iron Gauntlets. It just doesn't 'grab' me.
I haven't gotten Iron Gauntlets yet but I have to admit it looks cool.
What I want it to do is be flexible. Can you introduce an alternate race palette? Mess around with alternate magic systems... That sort of thing.
If it's fairly minimal but solid in system (which is the impression I get) It might be fun to work on a setting for it.

You asked for it, you got it. That pretty much describes IG to a T.

I just want you to know, Maw, that Clash here is not kidding.
I've played IG, and chose it to work my Steampunk Musha setting on.
It works very well for my needs, and very well for my players.
I also have to agree, the flexability of the game and the system is what makes me happy. I've also been enjoying how easy it is to mix and match different genres and systems among PIG's product line.
And as an artist, and running an art studio that deals with numerous publishers, Brett is a great guy when it comes to working with him.
Tonight, after The Bumples goes to bed, my wife and I are totally throwing down some Iron Gauntlets. We keep meaning to, but always run out of time.
Until tonight.
Actually, I HAVE run a brief session with her and one of my best friends...I ran into a bit of trouble with the magic system (it didn't map immediately to what we wanted, which was old-school fireballs-and-magic missiles action), but Brett helped me clear that up -- and even provided a very fast, very easy interface between D&D 3.x spells and the IG/Impresa rules. Swank!
EDIT: The magic system is not bad, it just wasn't what my player thought it was. It's a compliment to IG, though, to say that the system we DID want was so easy to graft on, it's almost embarassing that I didn't just do it right then and there.

That's news to me.

He didn't mention that they game. He said they're "throwing down some Iron Gauntlets". I bet there are videos and sites about whatever's behind that euphemism...

My Bad...I'm back to worshipping the Doc. And now some love for Sos for pointing out to me the
obvious innuendo.
Actually she got stressed out sewing so we played "Trivial Pursuit: Totally 80's" instead. Then we got stomachaches.

That is all.
