This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

There's something about Exalted...

May have been about the same level just more players seemed willing to talk about it.

Me too. I would be careful of assuming anything about a large fan base like Exalted from its internet contributors or anecdotes.

Though I am guessing there is a lot of finger pointing at anime, I think Exalted has plenty of other inspirations that have sexual elements such as Sword and Sorcery, Western Myth, and fantasy like Tanith Lee's Tales from a Flat Earth.

I didn't think I was making an statement about the fanbase but something about the setting material seems to inspire groups explore more detailed sexual subplots and interaction (or as I suggested more willing to be open about it). That's based on my experience, games I've seen and large online Exalted fan communities.

I didn't say every group did. Just its been more common than any game of similar popularity that I know except possibly for the original WoD. And even it didn't have NC-17 material contests on rpg.net.

I've seen other same the same thing about Exalted in the past, both as a compliment and a criticism. Personally I liked it but I think gamers as a whole could really  stand pull the stick out when it comes to romance, sex and related subject matters.

Standing behind a counter does deny the group a peek at my finely curved calf muscles.
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number
Playing: Star Wars D20 Rev.

A lack of moderation doesn\'t mean saying every asshole thing that pops into your head.

I think The Realm is a good example. The dynastic themes put an emphasis on sex.

True, I remember a chapter from one of the Aspect books that described a young dynast walking through an orgy looking for his parents and finding his mother in a sex swing, servicing a line of partners with his father waiting his turn. His father was angry, not thst the kid was there but he'd been left unattended so might have been mistaken from one of the catamites that were there for entertainment. And I don't think that was even House Cynis, the "pervert" House. And a good bit of the game fiction wasn't shy about it either.

PC: As I Monkey Leap into the air with The Princess of Diaphonous Negligee, I flare my caste mark to shine over us, as we totally bang.

GM: Roll dex + presence, and take a die for the stunt.

As you can see my games are probably better off without the sex.

Well, as with all things entertainment its a matter of taste and preference. :)

Cool. I think the inspirations are the source of this. Sword and Sorcery, Western Myth, Anime, and Tales of a Flat Earth all prominently feature sex and sexual elements. It is only emphasised more when you add in other influences like Arabian Nights and the Roman Empire. In contrast, the typically cooling factor of Medieval Europe found in many fantasy RPGs is absent.

And the heroes and gods of classical myths tend to be passionate even lusty bunch. So I agree considering the source material the leaning isn't that surprising. Just seemed to unusual given role playing somewhat prudish standards (at least in the US).

Well, the benefit of a new game is sometimes that people actually feel like they have permission to do something new that went against the social contract:).
Couple this with Exalted's generally permissive tone and attitude, and here we go, having this thread;).

Definitely. Players are also encouraged to put aside that prudishness to some by the explicit eschewing of Medieval European fantasy or fantasy with any Christian sensibilities.

In the only game I tried playing via Skype, I had a Solar Dawn Warrior go up a local Goddess of Love's tower to find out why she had effectively kidnapped three villages worth of women and men (about 60 total ladies, 20 men) of marriageable age

Turned out she had been under the control of a Fae lord, but to get to her, my character had to 'go through' an orgy, to confront her, and then 'challenge' her at her own game.  It's also where we used an old (I think it was, not sure if this was part of the system, or if a player made it up, I can't actually remember) Changeling the Dreaming rule for Satyrs, where they could use their Stamina + Athletics to determine their skill in bed.  In either case, my character won with hands down, and his hands on.

I think the setting fluff and art is one factor. Another can be the virtue mechanic itself. I remember by my 3rd session of Exalted a male and female player whom, out of game were not romantic involved, decided their characters get married and try to take over the world.

So, later on they get surprise attacked by an Abyssal trying to assassinate them while they were asleep in their bedroom. There was a horde of zombies snuck into their castle and attackin the other PCs, things being lit on fire, alarm bellz ringing etc.

The male pc one shots the Abyssal butt nekid. The female player makes and oo-la-la comment. In a moment of GM inspiration, I say to her "roll your temperance" which was 4 BTW. She triple botches. Hmm. I declare that saving her life and demonstrating his prowess at violence excited her uncontrollably  and she jumps him. We all have a big laugh.

Thinking to give them an out, I say the male pc can decide what to do... No. The player  declares he wants to roll his temperance too. After all, he says he female pc has Appearance 5. I say OK, sure. The male PC also has temperance 4. He double botched.

The odds of this happening  are fairly low... and the whole table just exploded into gales of laughter. They ended up humping the whole time while the other 3 PCs  fight off the abyssals and zombies.

Was very memorable. Led to other PCs  solving RP problems with sex. I never intended it to go that way but it kind of did.

I just know my Exalted games had way more sex than any of my other games, including my Victorian Age Vampire game.
1)Don't let anyone's political agenda interfere with your enjoyment of games, regardless of their 'side'.

2) Don't forget to talk about things you enjoy. Don't get mired in constant negativity.
