This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Young Adventurer's Guide series Hardcovers are so Inexpensive, and Good too.

Possibly the best edition neutral books I've seen, for D&D.  So reasonably priced, WOTC can't be making a profit off of them.

There are 5 books in the series, and I'm reviewing 3 of them.

Monsters & Creatures
Beasts & Behemoths
Wizards & Spells

No rules included.  Just names, descriptions, and lore.  Better player facing books, than the Monster Manuals or Bestiaries; in my opinion.

There's just no way that this is a direct money maker for WOTC.  They have to think of it, as an investment into the growth of their current and future customer base; via cheap little hardcovers aimed at kids?

But I see it as WOTC giving away some of their best monster lore, via books that are rules neutral and sell for peanuts.  There's no reason that Beasts & Behemoths, and Monsters & Creatures can't be a table resource the DM of any flavor of D&D type game; shares with a player who just rolled good on a lore check.

Demogorgon, Acererak, Lord Soth, Tiamat, Bahamut, Mind Flayers, Drow, Chromatic and Metallic Dragons, Giants, etc.

Let the Dice, Decide the Outcome.  Accept the Results.

Are these like the dragon guides set in Krynn they did a few years back?

I think it's a crime there wasn't a matching basic set.

I don't know?  I didn't see those.

Seems like an interesting idea. I'm sure I would have enjoyed something like this as a young'un. Does seem like it could be a viable marketing tool, depending on where they get the books into.
