This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Pick an Obscure Game and Tell Us About It!

Omega

Personal favorites of the Obscura.

Scraypers from Palladium. Not exactly a standalone. But it feels like it should have been a standalone like System Shock.
The setting is an alien world with various human and semi-human races that is being invaded by a warlike race. A weapon used by the aliens causes superpowers to begin to express within the populace. Thus it is a superhero vs invaders sort of premise. Fairly enjoyable too.

Another one is

Beyond the Supernatural also from Palladium. This is the nominal predecessor to Rifts and has been pretty much forgotten since then. A sort of Ghostbusters and Horror movie premise with magic and burgeoning psi powers alongside some weird tech. Really fun setting that I GMed for my first Library gaming group way back.

Boot Hill from TSR. I know its not really obscure. But it feels that way sometimes. Something of a hybrid wargame/RPG and it worked pretty darn well too. Percentile system and a fairly straightforward western setting without any supernatural elements initially.(if ever?)

Raven

The End (1995, Scapegoat games)

The year is 2004. The Day of Judgment has dawned and the Lord God did separate the wheat from the chaff, the sinners from the virtuous, the damned from the saved. One hundred forty thousand souls felt the Rapture and were assumed into Heaven.

Then came the Day of Reckoning. Those who had marked their heads, hands and hearts with the mark of the Beast were cast into the lake of fire. Mankind's lordship over the beasts was ripped from him. The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were loosed upon the unrighteous. The great Beast was given free reign to roam the wastelands and a third of the stars were ripped from the Heavens by the wings of Michael the Archangel. In the end, Death claimed almost every human that lived.

Then things went horribly wrong. God's hand fell upon the dust that was neither wheat nor chaff... those in this brave age who had chosen neither God nor his Adversary. The Risen Christ could not damn them for their sins, but nor could he allow them to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

God's greatest creation, Mankind, was finally left to his own devices. They have many names, the Meek, the Lost Souls, the Forsaken, but they have all learned the same thing: "The Meek shall inherit the Earth" was not a promise... it was a warning.

It's... very bleak. Cool if you're into Biblical End time stuff though. It has a house system but it's nothing 1000 other games couldn't handle. If I ran this I'd use something I was already familiar with (probably BRP)

Another vote for Systems Failure.

Giant Bugs > Zombies

The goof on Y2K is fun, but the game setting is Walking Dead with Giant Bugs and in actual play, there's a great Aliens Modern Day feel.

It reminds me quite a bit of the show Falling Skies.
