Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I agree.

There seems to be no requests for NPCs. Which could be read as 5e is so easy to generate NPCs, a good thing.

I've been following this, but I'm myself at a loss for content ideas (unless I talk about my own PC, which is probably utterly boring for anyone but me).

A way to breath life into this topic could be some sort of "theme week" that comes with a creative constraint, like "here is a series of 3d6 in order, make the best of it" or "inhabitants of a mining boomtown" or "level 5 town watch captain".

Actually, rather than to talk, I should just go ahead and provide the first challenge:

Ze stats:
STR 11 (0)
DEX 15 (+2)
CON 11 (0)
INT 10 (0)
WIS 6 (-2)
CHA 10 (0)

Let's make it a level 4 character to allow for sub-class choice and the possibility of feats and see what you make of it.

Background Feature: Guild Artisan
You belong to a union of skilled workers, or are perhaps a merchant, and have the privileges that go with it.

Rogue (Assassin) traits
- Thieves Cant
- Sneak Attack (2d6)
- Cunning Action (Dash, Disengage & Hide are bonus actions)
- Assassinate (advantage on attacks vs any creature that has not yet taken a turn in combat. Hits on surprised creatures are criticals.)

Feats
Tavern Brawler
proficient with improvised weapons and unarmed strikes; unarmed strike does d4; unarmed hit allows bonus grapple try

Personality
Personality Traits:
- I act terribly meek and deferential towards anyone larger or of higher standing than me.
- I frown at those who gorge down my treats, rather than to appreciate them slowly.

Ideal: Community - It is the duty of all civilized people to strengthen the bonds of community and the security of civilization.

Bond: One day I will return to my halfling village and be known as their greatest pastry cook ever.

Flaw: The thief's guild knows of my abilities, and blackmails me into providing them for them.

Equipment
fully equipped pastry shop, fine pastry cook clothes, 2 heavy hairpins (stats as daggers), cook's utensils, several flasks with legal rat poison
- personal poisoner's kit and "hot" poisons stashed away in a hidden locked chest with poison needle
- disguise kit, thieve's tools and other "hot" goods owned by the guild stashed away in another hidden locked chest with a poison needle

Brief Bio:
"Meek" Mimi Mibbins runs "Meek Mimi's Kind Treats", a pastry shop that is as close to a maid café as anything can get in a fantasy city. She is a terribly meek, shy and deferential person, a sweet girl-next-door towards men and a kind motherly figure towards children.
She also happens to be one of the best poison makers in town, and to be blackmailed by the thief's guild to provide them with her goods.

She picked the ability up innocently enough as part of her training, and used it solely to kill off pests in the kitchen and around the house.
One night when she closed shop, two thugs held her up to take the day's takings as "insurance". Feeling terribly overconfident against the meek halfling girl, they even sat down and demanded some freshly made pancakes. Overhearing their plans to have her for "dessert" after the meal, she panicked and spiked the pancakes with some handy poison. - Unfortunately for her, the thugs were connected. Fortunately for her life, if not for her conscience, the guild was impressed with her poison-making, and offered her security - and discrete removal of the two bodies - in exchange for future favours.

She now provides the guild with poison, a place to stash away hot goods, and a furnace to dispose bodies in.
As a modest girl that keeps her nose clean the situation isn't to her liking, but she is too weak-willed to stand up and by now much too entangled with the machinations of the city's underbelly to dare to expose her blackmailers.

Combat Behaviour:
Mimi won't, if she can help it. She prefers to run away and cry for help.
Only when cornered will she grab her hair pins (purposefully unpoisoned) and any kitchen implements, preferably to throw them. In melee she will prefer her bare hands for the possibility to grapple her attacker and create thus an opening to get away.

Some NPCs, based on how I've always envisioned them since the day I saw them, but with 5e rules

D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Bio: The last of the Sylvan Legacy gang's three council members. Plays a mediating influence between merchants and shrinkage, his gang's activities and fenced income, and internal gang disputes. He is not really charming in any of these roles, but his practicality, professionalism, and peacefulness tones down what could lead to violence. Brīvulis avoids legal hassles and abstains from hardline retaliation against outsiders, like other gangs, black merchants, or the law. He feels such violence is other people's work, ideally desperate temporary contractors.
Just make your fuckin\' guy and roll the dice, you pricks. Focus on what\'s interesting, not what gives you the biggest randomly generated virtual penis.  -- J Arcane

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.
