Title: The Temple of Elemental Evil ate my Game Group
Post by: Blackhand on April 17, 2013, 06:15:52 PM
Greetings once again, good folk of the RPGsite.

A few of you might remember I started a ToEE game with my group some months back.  Well, this last Sunday they decided to concede defeat and asked that we move to another world.

I thought some of you might appreciate looking at the session logs.

Part I (http://thewargate.blogspot.com/2013/02/greyhawk-adventures-log-part-i.html)
Part II (http://thewargate.blogspot.com/2013/04/greyhawk-adventures-ii-campaign-log.html)

In all, my group spent 20 sessions with this module alone (3 sessions in part II for the Ghost Tower), for 23 total sessions in as many weeks.

The total campaign lasted 117 playing hours, and resulted in the deaths of 27 Player Characters.  On average, the party hovered between 8 and 10 players.

6 Characters survived Part I but were retired, and 4 Characters survived Part II but were retired.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about the campaign or my methods.

Awesome!

What was the big chokepoint? What monster or trap racked up the biggest (or in any case most memorable) body count?

As was called in the previous thread "The Temple Won".

TOEE is not for the inexperienced or faint of heart.

Was it fun, for you or your players?

That's awesome. Based on your stats, I can believe you ruled fairly (and very much think you did).

It wasn't so much that the deaths were stacked up on each other...it was the alarming regularity of the death.  It just seemed to happen all the time, though mostly at the lower levels.

The most dangerous areas (at least for my players) seemed to be the towns.

*EDIT*  The Juggernaut was a bitch.  Got 3 or 4 on the first move.

It was a blast for everyone, until the very end.

I personally enjoy the challenge of a campaign like that.

Just don't invite a player that whines when his 50 hp fighter takes 1 point of damage :)
