This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Swine strike at post #39!

Yeah.  Well they have to justify and pump their imaginary war somehow.

They can't stand that people are enjoying games they don't like

I'm having visions of "the swine" being like weapons of mass destruction...

...which would make the Pundit the roleplaying equivalent of GBW.

How quaint :)

To be fair, in my time in this fancy intarweb thing, I've seen the behavior being discussed displayed by pretty much every grouping / type of players ... folks coming to one forum or another to endorse / attack / whatever one style of play or game over another.

I've seen rapid OD&Ders, 3rd gen'ers, story-gamers, palladium'ers, and all shades between attack and defend.

Personally, I find the behavior about the same as when folks post on a forum "hey, lookit what they're doing over at that forum ... "

I think too many folks both look to be offended and look to offend.

I'm just saying ... ;)

I think the comparison is dead on.

As I said earlier, it's not a "swine" thing -- it's a fan thing ;)

Well the Pundit likes to claim that there is a group of Swine trying to subvert the hobby, etc.

It's total crap.

Hell, if we were to go by The Pundit's discription of a "Swine" both the Pundit and Set fit in this category.

There are no "Swine" there aren't people trying to subvert this hobby.  There are people playing different things.

Are their assholes in this hobby?  Sure, but there are assholes in every hobby.

There aren't "Swine" there are people playing games that make them happy.  And since some of those games are games Pundit hates he labels them "Swine"

There's assholes everywhere, forget hobbies.  ;)

Yep, that is true.  But there is no such thing as swine.  They only exsist in Pundit's head.

I'm failing to see that post as any kind of 'swinery' whatsoever.  So what - he barely makes a dig at d20.  Sett, you're boxing with shadows.

I agree.

Now I have to say I wouldn't play Dred because I really don't care for how the system goes (I have never seen it, I am just going by the game discription in the post) but I see no swinery there.

I play Forge games all the time, but I don't think I'm swine.  However, I quoted the above because I have played Dread, and not gotten a real good experience.

It ended up feeling like a free-form roleplaying session with Jenga on the side.

I can't help but seeing a lot of this "Swine" nonsense as nothing more than a cynical ploy by Pundit to generate more traffic for the site.

What's even sadder is that people like Settembrini are following suit. Whether this is out of some misguided sense of loyalty or just a case of being genuinely suckered by Pundit's screed is debatable. Whatever the case, the behaviour this "war" engenders almost beyond juvenile.

Seriously mate, get a grip.

See I am not a fan of Free-Form role playing, I like dice roles and rules that really frame what goes on.

So Dread wouldn't do it for me.

Just curious, what didn't you like about it?

Yeah.  The thing is people who once sided with Pundit no longer agree with his "War" and "Swine" movement.

The amount is discussed has become less and less.   The best thing we all can do (yes, me included) is simply not reply to the threads.  When we take away the attention he craves he will move on to something else.

There is no war.  Just Pundit and Sett boxing with shadows

Settembrini

There are people making a lot  posts about me making a post about it.

Who´s boxing with shadows and is reassuring themselves of their level-headedness?

Post #39 is shit that makes me gag, because I have seen it ten times too often. Call him an asshole, I call him swine. In the end it doesn´t matter.
