This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The only thing worse than being talked about...

Quote from: ColonelHardissonYeah, the Traits and Passions. It's actually pretty easy, relatively speaking. Matter of fact, I worked on it years back, and I know someone else had done a full-on conversion of them for d20.
It shouldn't be too hard considering they both run on a d20. I rather like the PD combat system, though. What is it you don't like about it?

It just doesn't work for me. It's just a matter of taste, rather than of something I feel is wrong with the rules themselves.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Quote from: JongWKAre you talking about the new edition of Pendragon? I keep hearing good things about it, but no details. Care to expand?
There's no difference as far as I can tell. I've got 1st ed. and 4th ed. and they're pretty much the same except 4th ed. has more stuff for non-knightly games.

I have 1st and 5th ed. Pendragon, and they dumped the non-knightly classes which they had apparently introduced in between.

"They" being Greg Stafford who happens to live in my area and who's running a Pendragon AND a HeroQuest campaign. How many times have I been tempted to drop ole Greg an email and ask him to join... and how many times has the mere thought scared the living shit out of me?

Well, many times, obviously.

Think about it: you'd play a knight in GREG STAFFORD'S PENDRAGON CAMPAIGN!!!111! No PC could ever ever EVAR be good enough.

If you can't get your hands on a copy, I'll help you out. I want everyone to get HEX if they want it. Just send me a message and let me know what is going on, and we'll work out a way to get you a copy that won't cost an arm and a leg.

Here are some games I almost never talk about that I have really enjoyed playing with others over the years:

- James Bond 007
- Paranoia 1st ed.
- Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes
- Lords of Creation
- Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, 1st Edition

I think all of these games have some seriously cool things going on.

Lords of Creation is probably the RPG I'm most eager to try.  It seems to have exactly what I need to for crossgenre adventure gaming.

How's that?  I like cross-genre quite a bit, but my previous experiences with it (notably with TORG) have been lackluster.

The canned LoC adventures are pretty good too IMO. Horn of Roland was a great experience for me.

The powers are a little narrow but not too bad. The monster book was just plain inspiring, back in the day.

The last LoC campaign I ran, back in the mid-late eighties, never finished. I had people playing themselves in the real world, with the multidimensional reality just stuck in around the corners. John Cthulhu (R) was running for President of the United States, and he had to be stopped. There were lots of surreal fights with extradimensional demons on the BART trains, wry political commentary, and 'how do I get back from Midgard to make my analytic geometry class' type bits. We had a lot of fun with it.

I caught up with the guys after the 2000 election and mentioned the old game: "Well, it looks like you failed."

Quote from: droogI don't think most people are interested in the games I'm currently most interested in.
Well, let's see. :)

Quote from: droogThe ones I own: RuneQuest, Pendragon, Sorcerer, Bacchanal, My Life with Master, Primetime Adventures, HeroQuest, Burning Wheel, Trollbabe, Villains & Vigilantes, kill puppies for satan, Prince Valiant, Dust Devils, It Was a Mutual Decision.
Hmmm, this is my answer:

QuoteRuneQuest
Yes, but not so much as before. RuneQuest is a game that left a deep mark on me, but nowadays I prefer Hârnmaster to RuneQuest, I feel Hârnmaster gives most things I like about RuneQuest without most things I don't like about RuneQuest.

QuotePendragon
Yes. A great game, no doubt. Sometimes I've got problems with the setting, specifically with the anacronisms, and I think how I could adapt it for other medieval setting, such as A Song of Ice and Fire.

QuoteSorcerer
Never read nor played. It intrigues me, but I'm afraid I might end not liking it, for all the hype.

QuoteBacchanal
No.

QuoteMy Life with Master
No.

QuotePrimetime Adventures
Some mild interest, but not so much.

QuoteHeroQuest
Never read nor played, I think I should have a look at this game, it sounds great.

QuoteBurning Wheel
Yes. A great game. When I got Burning Wheel, I was a little disappointed because I found it very hard to understand. After having read it a few times, I'm starting to get how it works, and I'm liking it a lot.

QuoteTrollbabe
No.

QuoteVillains & Vigilantes
Never heard of it, sorry.

QuoteKill Puppies for Satan
No.

QuotePrince Valiant
No.

QuoteDust Devils
No.

QuoteIt Was a Mutual Decision
No.

And that's it. :)

Dr Rotwang!

I don't care if I'm interested in ayour game, droog. I care that you're interested, and have something interesting to say about it.  That's how you learn about other games -- you hear about them.
