This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Gurps 4e: Discworld excitement?

So in this interview Sean Punch reconfirms that SJ games is working on a new standalone Gurps: Discword game.

Is anyone else here excited for it?

I'm pretty excited, I loved the previous Discworld books (even if Gurps isn't the best system for the game) and the Disc has changed quite a bit since Discworld Also came out 11 years ago. Anybody heard any more information on this title?

Actually it, like the Vorkosigin book make me sad.  It's exactly the kind of entry level book GURPS needs so desperately.  Tied to the worst possible setting for the job.

Don't forget Girl Genius! Not that I have any opinion on how well the system would work for the setting. I'm just talking about the vaporware aspect.

I'm looking forward to it.

I also agree that it's exactly the kind of product GURPS needs, only not tied to discworld :/

Any book written for GURPS is good for GURPS, I suppose.  I'm not a fan of Discworld or Vorkosigan Saga.  The last GURPS setting book I bought was The Book of the New Sun because it sounded a little interesting.  Then I became a fan of the series and of Gene Wolfe.  I'm guessing there are fans of Discworld and Vorkosigan Saga to generate interest in GURPS.

Steve Jackson can't afford a license to make a Hunger Games setting book or a "Powered by GURPS" book for it.  He's thinking first about how much to pay a writer who can do a good job of it and how many copies to print and how many orders he'll get, etc.

I don't think they need a license at all. Just a ready to play game with broad appeal (generic high fantasy, space opera, etc...).

You have to have a license to make a game of someone else's IP.  Or did you mean something else?

The Asylum (if they made RPG games of movies) would have RPG titles like "Battle of Los Angeles", "Transmorphers", "Snakes on a Train", "Alien vs. Hunter", etc.

The Fallout games could have used GURPS as their RPG system.  They were going to.  It was being done after license agreements were made with Steve Jackson Games.  Interplay developers were huge GURPS fans.  But Steve Jackson hit the panic button.  Thought he might get taken to the cleaners if the game failed for some reason.  Maybe loose control of his own RPG?  But what if he didn't panic?  Gloriousness!

You can still see some GURPS in those games.

I would like to see a Space 1889 for GURPS.  Just so I don't have to do it myself.

Yeah I mean SJgames needs a fully playable game to show people how to use GURPS.

Not nessacarly a licensed setting (though it could be).

I'm looking at my GURPS things to buy list.  GURPS Zombies is the only new book I see that I'll be buying.

Yeah I'm interested in the Discworld game and that's about it.

Where did you hear about GURPS Zombies?

One of the YouTube videos (no, it was a pod cast I heard) talked about Steve Jackson Games at a convention.  They mentioned it being written by the guy that did GURPS Horror, if I remember.  It will replace the GURPS Undead 3rd edition book and update content found in some of the other 3rd edition source books.  Then add a bunch of new content on top of that.  It's a hardcover book.  Check with the forums on Steve Jackson Games' site.  I don't remember the year.  Maybe a release in early 2013?
