This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I guess we have to agree to be tired of each other's posts.  Unless you want to make a big deal about it, or something?

Nah. It's not like I feel your posts are harassment or anything.

If AD&D can't be talked about it's reputation can't be besmirched, hooray!

Good, that would be incredibly silly if you did.  Especially since you can't, like, harass a game system.

Selective memory. I see.

No, I'm just not rising to your trollbait.

Anyway, can we please just talk about what should be in an Old School Primer instead of wandering down the path of "That's not REAL AD&D so it doesn't count!"

Well don't let me stop you. Right back at you, mister!

Considering Troll Lord and Goodman Games are providing materials for Free RPG Day next Saturday, now's a good time as any.

Right.  Back on topic.

Does anyone have any suggested beginning modules for OSR play?

There are a lot of free adventures out there, but what are the really excellent ones that are geared toward a Great First Adventure?

What are the materials for Free RPG Day they have announced?

Quote from: flyerfan1991;547351For some reason, whenever I saw 'Bigby' in the AD&D PH, I thought of Bill Bixby (aka. Bruce Banner).  Maybe just swap out the 'g' for an 'x' and call them Bixby's spells.
Or, for a more comical effect, change it to "Baby".

Edit: Also, Bill Bixby will always be The Magician and Mr. Eddy's father to me.

Goodman is releasing two short adventures for the DCC RPG. I'm not sure what the Trolls are up to.

Lots of good folks are participating:

Thanks for the link, Harley, and welcome to the RPG Site. :)

It's a sad day when two of your favorite posters bicker over what exact version of descending-AC, roll-3d6-in-order, wandering-monster-table, TSR-published D&D is better. How thin can one split a hair?

Sometimes I think our community deserves grognards.txt and similar mockery.

AD&D Nazis notwithstanding :D, Hackmaster 4e was based on AD&D (since they were the ones who actually possessed the license from WotC), and added a lot of systems to it.  It was a custom version of AD&D in exactly the same sense that ACKS is a custom version of D&D.  If they released it today, instead of 11 years ago, it would be considered a OSR 2.0 product.  Of course the WotC required satire turned a lot of people off, but all the products were top notch, especially the Atlas.

Hackmaster 5e and DCCRPG should certainly be part of an OSR game list.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar
