This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hey it's cool! People can like their not-AD&D-for-the-Lulz all they want. :D

Quote from: CRKrueger;547324Compared to Hackmaster it ain't.  Hackmaster went to 11.
Quote from: Benoist;547325Yeah, in a kind of "here's what a caricature of AD&D would look like for you retards" kind of way, I know.

That's not what I call "Advanced". :D
Well, maybe "Advanced Retards & Role-playing". =)

Actually, I never delved into the Hackmaster books, just flipped through them a bit at a store. Didn't see a whole lot of changes, just a few things I wasn't interested in, like Honor. I can't really say that it was either a caricature or "AD&D cranked to 11".

I did get about a third of the monster books, which seemed OK, if a bit funny in the way that everything had a listed treasure value and all pictures of creatures showed them attacking adventurers.

I'm just pushing some buttons like the Lamb did earlier. Just joking. ;)

Maybe you are benoist, but I honestly thought that HackMaster was a parody game when it first came out.
"Meh."

Benoist

Well there is an ounce of truth in the joke in the sense that I would not call Hackmaster "AD&D" by any stretch of the imagination, personally. That doesn't mean, however, that the game can't be enjoyable for the people who like to play it, or even evocative of the ways they played the AD&D game at some point or other.

It's not Real AD&D (tm) unless Gygax himself put his personal mushroom stamp on your rulebooks.

Not really. Lejendary Adventures isn't AD&D either. Or Cyborg Commando. Or Mythus.

But hey, whatever caricature comes to mind, right?

The RPG Site, because, motherfucker, if the horse didn't want to get beat, it wouldn't have fucking died.

Quote from: StormBringer;547239Absolutely.  Mordenkainen could have been replaced with "Mystic" to keep those spells in the same(ish) area, but I am not coming up with anything off the top of my head for Bigby.  Bewitching?  Not a whole lot out there without really making it sound stilted.

In any case, if a word starting with a different letter were used, it would sound terrible and rather defeat the purpose of alphabetizing.

For some reason, whenever I saw 'Bigby' in the AD&D PH, I thought of Bill Bixby (aka. Bruce Banner).  Maybe just swap out the 'g' for an 'x' and call them Bixby's spells.

It was a joke, son.  But thanks for illustrating that you feel the need to defend AD&D from every perceived slight.

It's just that I'm getting tired of you constantly jumping on threads like this to get your "jokes" in.

To the point where it can't even really be talked about,

Fuck.  Now the fact that there is no such thing as Bixby's Hulking Hand is going to haunt me.

Gotta write that one up myself.

That's also a falsehood.
