This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). I was right! I long predicted that of the new 2024 #onednd core books from WotC, the #DMG would be the one they ruin the worst! The first info is terrible.

Man at Arms

This will be the last WOTC book, that Chris Perkins is a lead on.  He will help WOTC put out the new DMG, and then drop the mic.

For better or worse.

And then who's left?  Jeremy Crawford.

I don't see why they didn't make a greatest hits out of the previous DM's Guide. Copy/paste as much as possible and they could have made a great book. Instead they have Bastions and X cards.

Sweet Baby Inc. meddled in the design of this new version of D&D. As a result, I refuse to buy it. I won't support anything that company produces.

Did they really? Is there a source saying this? Yikes...

I heard they dropped the idea of the "adventuring day" to measure encounter frequency and difficulty because no one actually ran/played that way. This would be a good thing IMO, but then again, isn't that going to really play with how long and short rests were intended?

Depends on whether they redefine Long and short rests. 13th Age had its resources tied to either 1/encounter or 1/full heal up, with the latter being "whenever the DM felt like it" with a recommendation of after every four encounters.

Just saying the effects of a short rest happens every other encounter and a long rest after every six encounters (even if they span six separate days of travel) would solve that, though those who strongly favor simulation would pitch a fit.

Personally, I prefer systems where resources are regained a bit more organically than D&D's approach.

To be fair, I'm looking forward to bastions. Not that I expect that it will be done well -- but having a baseline concept to mod the hell out of, rather than working on the notion from scratch, will be nice.
Mechanics should reflect flavor. Always.
Running: Chrono Break: Dragon Heist + Curse of the Crimson Throne (D&D 5e).
Planning: Rappan Athuk (D&D 5e).

I'm pretty sure both of these we already defined in the 2024 PHB and were essentially the same as in 2014 PHB, but I'm away from book right now so I can't check.

Hadn't heard that one.

But my lack of surprise is total.

WotC was on their client list on their website, before they took the page down. I saw it around the time that WotC put out that book hating on Gygax.

The source was me. I did my own investigation.

Hmm... so not 100% confirmed but the signs are there.

Yikes.
