This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Man at Arms

The language in the DMG, will probably make some of us want to throw up.

But they will have more time, to write the language for the MM.  I anticipate that the lore for each foe, will be "modernized" for the better.

Uh....... no thanks.

Listening to Perkins spout off about fake 5e... They dont have anybody with any ability now.

He's always been remarkably useless IMO. He seems nice enough and not a Narcissist like Jeremy Crawford, but his public GMing is appalling. If that's supposed to be the acceptable standard I see why people regard Matt Mercer as a Living God. Perkins seems entirely devoid of any discernable talent, the very definition of an Empty Suit (empty baseball cap?). I expect his departure will make essentially no difference one way or another. They were producing drek before, they will continue to be producing drek in the future.

I do find it kind of incredible. They're always happy to sack an actual very strong talent like Rich Baker, who produced probably the majority of the good adventures that ever came out from WotC. Or Mike Mearls for that matter, who has his flaws but clearly did build a good team for the 2014 release, consult genuinely, and create a very good synthesis in 2014 D&D, the game that WoTC has been cannibalising for the past six years.

I enjoyed Perkins when he was DMing Acquisitions Inc in 4e, but like for the content. His DMing skills were pretty amateur that I recall, but it was more or less an accelerated adventure for consumption not a complete campaign.

Quote from: Darrin Kelley on October 25, 2024, 10:41:49 PMSweet Baby Inc. meddled in the design of this new version of D&D. As a result, I refuse to buy it. I won't support anything that company produces.
Did they really? Is there a source saying this? Yikes...

WotC was on their client list on their website, before they took the page down. I saw it around the time that WotC put out that book hating on Gygax.

The source was me. I did my own investigation.

WotC was on their client list, but given the breadth of their offerings (especially if they were including stuff licensed from WotC, like Baldur's Gate III), that's not necessarily conclusive for Irrelevant*. Plenty of reasons to avoid Sweet Baby, WotC, and the new game, but accuracy still matters.

*My personal name for the 2024 edition of the game. :)

Something to keep in mind though is that anything they have said will be in the DMG could be just baiting to garner that sweet free outrage advertising. wotc has done it many a time before. No reason to think they wont try it again. But where and how? Smoke & Mirrors like a few times before. Or actually putting it into print like they have before.
