This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The most realistic RPG ever written!!!!

Then names his world Atlantasia - that's about as lazy as it gets when naming important stuff.

I don't mind Atlantasia that much, but I weep for the Nor-Scand Mountains.

It all reminds me a great deal of Metascape.
Reading your posts, I've inferred you seem to like "realistic" games, like Hârnmaster, Rolemaster, Metal Magic & Lore, etc.

Well, I'm afraid this game is not for you, it would be if you were a fan of World of Synnibarr. :D
Grając zaś w grę komputerową, być może zdarzyło się wam zapragnąć zejść z wyznaczonej przez autorów ścieżki i, miast zabić smoka i ożenić się z księżniczką, zabić księżniczkę i ożenić się ze smokiem.

I love Synnibar! :)
My favoritest game ever is Arduin. I absolutely do love the "hardcore realistic" games. But I also love the full gonzo. I tend not to like the things in the middle so much.

And although I respect production values, I respond more to enthusiasm. So even though they get sort of annoyingly self-congratulatory, I really enjoy some of these over-the-top heartbreakers. And since I tend to spackle over the minor rules problems as a matter of course, a game has to be both execrably designed and excruciatingly dull before I really start to hate it.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Over on Google+, Chris Helton called this "RPG Folk Art", which is a great way to look at it. It's not for me, but then neither is D&D, so no problem. Having written a 500+ page game book I respect greatly anyone who can push through it.

It's a good analogy. The hobby was built on this kind of stuff, so it's a bit rich to point and laugh at it.

I think most of the laughter is directed at the naive hype surrounding the product, and not the product itself. It's a bit rich to claim to have done things nobody has ever done before and that this little pebble of a game will topple the Goliath. There's a comedy to that - a tragic comedy, but a comedy nonetheless.

I think the 'folk art' analogy is excellent, and I feel for the artist in this case. He strikes me as a vertiable Don Quixote.

Excellent description. Especially because his tone literally does break my heart as well. I want to laugh, but then there's the urge to cry. And how much of a bastard I would be to do either in the face of someone so painfully earnest.

Oh, the misguided purchases I'd make if I had millions of dollars in disposable income...

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Because of this last point, Par-traxx cannot be touched physically, mentally or magically.

Quote from: One Horse Town;492810I'm not going to trample on someone who has obviously invested so much time and effort into this project.

I will however trample on him for the lousy Flash intro screen, and for his use of the term "RPG scene".

I didn't get far enough to look at the details of the game. Could be fun, who knows?

Nah, they're being nastier than we are.

Most of them are oblivious to the fact that they support games and writers with worse ideas and mechanics than so far seen in this game.
