This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm afraid I don't draw a line between my wargaming and roleplaying miniatures.  When people ask what I plan to use this miniature or that for I answer "whatever I want."  The very idea of limiting the use of miniatures to the specific game they come from is a loathesome marketing scam.

So, at least a couple thousand with a couple hundred seeing regular use in D&D lately.

I don't get minis for a single purpose.  If I can't use it for another game, preferably dedicated for it, as WELL as for RPG gaming, I don't get them.

That said, I have several sets.

Ravenswing

Several hundred, anyway; I've never counted.

I use them in almost every single combat; people like the spatial reference.
This was a cool site, until it became an echo chamber for whiners screeching about how the "Evul SJWs are TAKING OVAH!!!" every time any RPG book included a non-"traditional" NPC or concept, or their MAGA peeners got in a twist. You're in luck, drama queens: the Taliban is hiring.

Snowman0147

I tried, but found it too pricy.  So I only got four minis.

Doom

Lawdy, hundreds, and I easily use 30 in a night, sometimes three times that if I need a big scene. But otherwise, I've got at least 6 at the table, at least three encounters a night. I figure one solid horde (15 or so), one encounter (8 or so) and one big bad (1)...but sometimes there are more encounters in a night, and I try not to use the same monsters over and over.

A nice education blog.

None. And none.

Omega

Actual RPG minis: About a dozen. Ive got the bard mini I won from the Greyhawk event at Gencon sitting on the desk here, and my old Call of Cthulhu professor.

Just about everything else is from non-RPG board or wargames. Warhammer, Chronopia, Mutant Chronicles, HeroQuest, HeroScape, etc.

To-Date I own zero Wiz-Kids minis.

Have I used any recently? No. Not in over a decade and even then that was sparingly. Mainly to show some start positioning so the players could better visualize the situation. In the end some dice do the same job.

Simlasa

Like David Johansen I've got thousands of figures, but none are relegated to just RPGs or just wargames.
They don't get much use in RPGs of late because most of the games I play are online.
Our Pathfinder GM has a lot of those bendy plastic prepaints, and sets of the Dwarven Forge terrain... and we use those once in a while, but it's usually more hassle than it's worth to get them out and do the whole mapping thing. It's also (IMO) no match for theater-of-the-mind... so unless something complicated is going on... no figures.

Agreed, I mix and match manufacturers as long as the scale and style is somewhat of a match.

Of course not, no one does that.

"Oh, I've got these great minis that would be perfect for this dungeoncrawling scenario, but I cant use them, because these are for wargames only!"

What Pundit should have said is: "miniatures that you actually use for rpgs, regardless of their other purposes".

Warthur

I own several Blood Bowl teams, a compact Flames of War army and some Saga minis (both for base Saga and for Crescent and the Cross), but I use minis for wargames, not RPGs.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

I play wargames that are RPGs.

S'mon

Maybe 4,000? Too many to count, anyway. I guess a typical RPG session uses around 30.
