This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Generally the solution is Virtual Table Top software. In combination with VoIP (Skype, Teamspeak, Ventrillo, etc) it replicates the table-top experience pretty effectively. While not a 100% duplicate it has a few advantage to compensate like true fog of war, chat logs, etc.

It has allowed me to play with friend that I know for 20 years but now scattered across the country.

I still prefer to sit down around a table. But if the choice is between using a VTT and no gaming. I will damn well use the VTT.

Yup, I'm on the same page.  I've been gaming with the same core group of friends for 20 years, and this medium allows us to continue even though we're scattered across the country now.

DeadUematsu

Yeah, VTT & Voice ain't so bad, definitely faster than just chat BUT FTF gets shit done.

Hey, if you need a fix now and then, jump on into the Castle Amber PbP on this very board!  I got a few people that dropped out, so I need someone to play the characters.

Quote from: Aos;290607. My best friend and I are talking about doing something over skype, but he has dial up and has been talking about getting broad band for about two years. We'll see.

He did this yesterday, after about a year of just talking about it. So it looks like we'll be able to get something going in the near future.

I don't know, 15 hours in 3 months sounds only slightly less than normal to me.

My campaign runs every other Friday for 3 hours.  So that'd only be 18 hours for 3 months.

That seems about right to me.  I wouldn't mind a second game once in a while (unfortunately, no one is ever free except every other saturday), but I don't think I'd necessarily have the time/energy for a game every week.  And 3-4 hours is about right for a regular session I think.
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.
