This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The ENnie judges...

Sorry to hear you did not make it Mike. Maybe next year. ;)

In related news, YourGamesNow.com is the sole corporate sponsor. Kind of cool to have a co-op of publishers sponsor it...and yes, I am part of YGN.

I was surprised you guys pulled that off!:D

Great move.

QuoteMy only issue is that being that they are all primarily EN World posters,I fear that the conspiracy theorists will have a hayday.
Sadly this is the exact impression I got.
"Ah, again the ENWorld/Circus Maximus popular crowd." was what I thought. Especially as several non-Judges seem to have gotten sweet jobs at the ENNies nonetheless

But who am I to complain it´s the ENnies, after all.

But: Someone who likes D6, no Forgers and everybody likes D&D. I think I don´t feel "minoritated".

I´m still not over the Jeff Ranger Fanclub, so I´m not happy to see him in. But that´s totally emotional and not backed up by much rationality.

according to sett, Jeff has a big weird fan club or sumsuch. Untill he mentioned it a while back I had never heard of it.

Sweet jobs?

I've seldom heard volunteer positions referred to as "sweet".

But if you'd like to help out, let me know and I'll pass it on to Denise. I think there are a few volunteer positions that could use some extra hands.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

After second thought, I realized that it´s most likely quite a chore. But still that´s really looking like an we all know and like each other group-hug thingamajig. Especially as resident ENworlders who seem to be come here to defend them.

Just be honest about it, it´s nothing wrong. It´s the fucking ENnies, so it´s all Enworld run.

Makes sense, doesn´t it?

And your tastes are pretty much like mine, so I won´t complain. But to a non ENWorld guy like me, this is not in any way a general-audience setup.

I feel like a libertarian talking to some "economy republicans" right now...

It's not shocking that it largely came down to a EN/CM popularity contest.  I was hoping for mcrow or someone to be added.  But it's not that bad.  Piratecat and TB may be driven by internet popularity but they're smart guys with lots of game knowledge.  The others seem decent too - I know nothing about Jeramy but his credentials are reasonable.

Mr. Analytical

Why are there conspiracy theories?

I've never set foot over on ENworld and have never paid any attention to who has won an Ennie.  Let them pick who they want to judge.

Having said that, I don't put any credibility in any of the RPG awards.

If by fan club, he means friends, then yeah I guess he does. Being a cool enough person to have people openly like you isn't a flaw. Jeff makes and keeps friends because he remains true to himself. This "fan club" notion is utter bullshit. Make a good enough impression on enough people, and you might get a "fan club" of your own.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Not sure who does, people who post a lot at Enworld I guess might find them useful but I'd imagine they'd already know from that forum what was cool that was relevant to them.

But yeah, rpg awards leave me pretty indifferent also.  An rpg razzies might be more fun:

Worst conversion of a licenced property
Most obscure setting
Most gimmicky core resolution mechanic
Narrowest game premise
Worst d20 cash-in
Most unbalanced prestige class

Stuff like that, that would be fun and could result in a perfect storm of flamewars that would kill the internet...

LOL...now if it was done in sort of a good-natured way, like the Razzies themselves, that would be fun.  But I doubt it would.

It's sad I already have nominees in my head...

I suggested this a while ago as it felt in tune with the vibe of the forum.  My other forum does one for British comedy called the Comedy Tumbleweed awards.

It would be great fun to do, I can hear Bruce Baugh complaining about people needing to be more positive even now.

If anything, the problem is that there's just too much garbage out there to properly crawl through all of it, plus the inevitable flamewars but that's just good fun.

Yeah, where it breaks down is that each nominated book would be the labour of love by some guy probably not that different to any of us, a fan who's project went wrong.

So I'd feel like a bastard if I then encountered them online.  We'd have to make sure we banned them from the forum to avoid that happening...

The other thing would be that IMO most "winners" would probably not be in the indie field, those guys just aren't big enough generally, it would be stuff like the Chaosium d20 Elric conversion.
