This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

There's been blather for days that we have too many not-RPGing threads in the main forum, and the immediate response was "post some new threads!", so here's my contribution.

This thread is about IMAGES THAT INSPIRE you to do new cool stuff with your Elfgames.

I'm interested in VISUALS that spur your creativity.

It's no surprise I'm a huge fan of Heavy Metal magazine's art style. This video by High on Fire is absolutely what I want going down in an OD&D adventure. It's NSFW so you've been warned. The music isn't the deal. It's all about the images.

Here's another doom metal song with an animated movie about attacking giants, bug wizards and flying space skull.

When all hope seemed lost; and Aragorn looked at the king, and said, "ride out with me"......

That, was when he earned his crown to come.  In that moment, he grabbed the bull by the horns and broke its damn neck!!!
I need you to roll a perception check.....

I'm out of bandwidth or I'd directly link them, but on YouTube are two cuts from the animated Return of the King.  The first is Eowyn's "Defiance of the Witch King" speech:  To me, it's as moving as the St. Swithin's Day monologue.  The other is "Where There's A Whip, There's A Way" about orcs being (literally) driven to war. Both gave me chills when I heard them.

There is also the "Flight of The Valkyries" scene from Apocalypse Now.

I spend a lot of time on CGSociety and Pinterest looking for imagery that catches my eye. Since most of my fantasy skews toward "science fantasy", I usually look for things that give me that vibe. I'm also especially fond of environment and creature designs.

The more clichéd my group plays their characters, the better. I don't want Deep Drama™ and Real Acting™ in the precious few hours away from my family and job. I want cheap thrills, constant action, involved-but-not-super-complex plots, and cheesy but lovable characters.

Just about any artwork by Angus McBride is inspirational.

I have an OSR love of the ElfQuest RPG. So. This.
