This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Dungeon Fantasy RPG for GURPS has arrived.

Just got my copy of GURPS Dungeon Fantasy today.
The Blog Post.
Showing the things I got

Next the content of the DF RPG box itself

Cardboard Heroes and Maps

The Books, bases, and dice

Overall I feel I got the value for the money I spent. In terms of what the contents offers the closest RPGs in terms of coverage and complexity would be Runequest 6/Mythras. This is truly a complete RPG based on GURPS. The biggest issue I have is the 250 point starting points which invariably makes the character have a lot of stuff that they can do. But because of the DF RPGs it is not any more onerous than what Pathfinder and D&D 3.5 people do to look up feats and spells.

Any reason not to just use 100-point starting characters as per ancient tradition, or whatever the GM wants? Any peculiar ensuing complications of doing so?

Well, there's the goblin population explosion from them eating well off of the corpses of dead starting adventurers, but as the GM I don't see a problem with that.  Goblin's gotta eat something!

(I haven't gotten my copy yet, so I don't have a non-joking answer.)

I'm surprised how quiet this thread is; is there not more interest in this? I ordered it but have been out of town so I haven't had a chance to look at it.

There's some discussion on it on the big purple, but I haven't gotten my copy yet - supposed to arrive today - and so don't have much to say.  I'm hearing good things so far.

But, y'know, GURPS has been becoming less popular over time as SJG has concentrated on more profitable ventures, and although this is probably intended to help reverse that trend, it still hasn't really hit.  If my wife wasn't in the hospital *again* I'd probably be interested in trying out a campaign.

Speaking just for myself, I already have 3rd edition GURPs and a bunch of sourcebooks for it and see no reason to buy a game I already own, plus I'm not that into fantasy games anyway. I guess it's good to make a GURPS already set up for fantasy games so someone can play it right out of the starting gate. If I didn't already own GURPS and were into fantasy, I might be interested.

I'm interested in reading some actual play reports, but I have my hands full with what I am doing already.

My take is that this (i.e. dungeon crawl game) isn't the kind of thing I look for from a system like GURPS. YMMV.
The problem is not that power corrupts, but that the corruptible are irresistibly drawn to the pursuit of power. Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.

In terms of what it covers it is comparable to Mythras/Runequest 6. In addition like OD&D itself it not limited to dungeon crawls.

I will be doing something later this fall. But here are some actual play accounts.

The DF RPG is just GURPS with anything not needed for D&D style Fantasy cut out of it.

Oh the one time I tried to live blog an adventure on Twitter (using GURPS)

Cool, thanks! I've got to get ready for work or I'd be diving into these now.

I think we'll see some more activity as folks start to get it and play it. SJ Games would have had a lot more noise if they could have had the box out in time for Origins and GenCon.

So, this is playable out of the box? I mean, you don't need the GURPS core rules?

Correct.  It's a complete game in the box.

And is it more or less complex/involved than GURPS?
