This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yeah, i think it's more 'd&d for stoners'.

Wait, I thought that was just D&D.
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

Nah, AD&D1 was for stoners.

AD&D2 was for people who still had imaginary friends.

3e was for MtG players.

3.5e was for Mathematicians.

4e was for MMOGers (and the odd Ron Edwards fan who hadn't yet died of autoerotic asphyxiation.)

5e will herald the ending of the Fifth World and the beginning of the Sixth, so no one will be playing RPGs, because we'll all be living Shadowrun.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

We kicked around an idea in a SR group about running a game in the Sixth Age of Middle Earth, Shadowrun in Gondor...

My impression of HACKMASTER is that it's a homage-parody to the late 80's top-heavy, creaking, ambulatory deathbed of a first edition D&D that also somehow canonized most of the suggested "rules extras" from the pages of Dragon magazine.

Also that it would probably have been better off staying as an offstage satire of that era of roleplaying in the pages of KODT.
Perforce, the antithesis of weal.

Would that be Hackmaster 4th, Hackmaster 5th, or are you aware there's a difference? :D

that would be HackMaster 4e you speak of -- from ten years ago. ;) A parody by necessity (and a very successful one at that).

HM5e is a different animal. Not much in common with AD&D except for the basic stuff like classes, races etc.

But yes -- definitely pick a game that suits your style and play it til the wheels fall off. ;) Plenty of games (and players apparently) to go around.

Game on!

Am I missing the joke as usual?

Not sure about Hackmasteras a game I'd play/run Jolly but the HoB is tempting me.  And those pretty covers.....
Don\'t mess with cats we kill wizards in one blow.;)

Interesting that a topic on the new edition of Hackmaster has spent over half its time not talking about Hackmaster. Can we infer from this that there's not much noteworthy in it (same old same old)?
Avatar to left by Ryan Browning, 2011 (I own the original).

It would help if i could spell my own made-up compound words...

Precisely and exactly.

Prexactly.

IE, yeah DCC is very much like ad&d.

Gotcha, I'd do the album cover thing but I like Lily.  Hint for you guys.  I would go with Cocteau Twins but I can't tell you which album cover in case I decide to use it. Remember I am a cat.:)

Thanks again. ;) I actually did the design work on both the HOB and PHB before it got kicked around during the approval process. Come up with the embossment design for the PHB really red lined my meager graphic design skills.

I ran a Shadowrun game set in the future of the world of Ravenloft. Strahd Industries, The Azarolich virus, a cyborg Lord Soth, etc. Great fun.

Jesus Wept, that would be awesome, a cyborg Lord Soth is about as metal as it gets.
