Okay what would an RPG based on the work of David Cronenberg be about. Would characters with A History of Violence be invited to A Naked Lunch where they would ponder the natures of their eXistenZ with npcs who are their Dead Ringers ....:D
Okay seriously, what do you think a RPG based on his work would look like. Themes, tech whatever...what kind of rules, do you think it would have. What would the setting be like?

In a world where James Spader walks around in a cocaine daze, where Jeff Goldblum whiles away the hours with video blogs about metamorphosis, boredom is the only power.
Thrill as your PCs wander in the background, searching in vain for something to do while the main characters emote! Spill your Coke while dodging thrown knives as your players get up and leave for a game where shit gets done.
I saw his car crash movie late at night on cable, saw The Fly the same way.
He has not left a positive impression...

Some of my friends feel the same way :D
But here's what I think could make an interesting game/campaign IMHO.
I'm thinking of weird obsessed scientist having their experiments wrecked by mundane everyday occurences. Drugs altering the state of mind revealing a strange other world called
Meta which so happens to be a product of a VR gaming company which nobody knows about.
One way of perceiving this strange world and how it effects our world is by
visions brought upon by trauma. The world is littered with strange tech, stranger drugs, the strangest possible game designers :D and always Christopher Walken in the background.
I know it's a mess, but I'm dunno' I like the man's films.

Come to think of it, not all that long ago I wondered why eXistenZ hasn't inspired an RPG. A game in which the goal is to discover the reason why you are really playing the game? That sounds perfect for a little indie experiment.
I would think that "Over the Edge" would do quite nicely for a Cronenberg game with just a bit of tweaking.

I actually thought that this was one of the game's explicit goals.
Was I wrong?
I think that OTE specialized in more of a William S. Burroughs-ian delusional heroin freak-out thing.
Cronenberg's trip is much colder, clinical and sexualized.

One of the Sorcerer mini-supplements, Schism (http://www.sorcerer-rpg.com/product.php/schism.html), is based upon the works of Cronenberg. It's by Jared Sorensen.

Very nice. I've always wanted to run a Cronenberg-like game. Now I've got a couple of options.
