I was asked to post my links to various crazy and/or useful shit. Here it is. A lot of it is links to stuff I said. If you have genius shit that
you said, tell me, and I'll edit the list and add it in. I've refrained from giving links to pages of other links.
I'd like to avoid system-specific stuff. This is for two reasons. Firstly, because I want the links list to be one anyone can use, whatever their game system of choice. Secondly, because with at least 1,500, and probably over 2,000 rpgs ever published, if I were to go for system-specific stuff, the list would expand forever and become unusable...

- A small circle of friends (http://whswhs.livejournal.com/15009.html). Instead of game groups, game circles. Bill Stoddard, rpg authour and generally switched-on guy, talks about "What I've done... is to come up with an idea for a campaign, and then pick out people who might fit into it and invite them to play. There is no preexisting group of players: the group is created by the individual players accepting my invitation to play, and lasts only as long as that campaign lasts."
- Building a Player Network (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=276775). e-zines Since magazines are all company-specific now, it's a good thing we have the web- The Iridia Zine (http://www.iridiazine.net/issues.htm) - a general roleplaying zine, with a common focus on GURPS and D&D, publishes in pdf and print weekly - over 40 issues now.

- Fallout 3 files (http://nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=61). From an abandoned version. May help you run your own Fallout campaign. Docs and so on, not the code stuff.
- David Icke (http://www.davidicke.com/index.php/), not a roleplaying page, but good conspiracy-horror-scifi campaign material. This guy thinks that the ruling classes of the world are actually all alien blood-drinking reptilians.
- Alien abductions (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Shadowlands/6583/abduct.html) - like Icke's webpage, also not a roleplaying one, but with many articles on alien abductions of humans and their plans to create alien-human hybrids to take over the world. Good for a Delta Green campaign, perhaps?

Funny shit about roleplaying- The roots of roleplaying (http://www.acaeum.com/forum/about3888.html), in which David Wesely talks about how he invented polyhedral dice. Then here (http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=73010) is described "The Secret History of Roleplaying" (scroll to about the middle of the long page). And then the dungeon crawl (http://home.tampabay.rr.com/gsvenson/FirstDungeonAdv.html) is described by the sole survivor of the TPK. They even LARPed a little bit.

JimBob...you MAGNIFICENT BASTARD.
This list is the gift that keeps on giving.
Regards,
David R
Thanks, mate. Make sure you email if you find another good webpage along these lines, I can keep editing and adding to it.
JimBob, you have just passed Paul Hogan as my favorite Aussie (and no, Yahoo Serious wasn't in the running).
I didn't see this (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=290579) thread on your list yet.
It is shaping up to be a good one.
Non Verbal Learning Disorder (NVLD)
Not to make fun othe poster or anyone with a similar situation, but sometimes you wonder if people try using it to their advantage.
That is indeed a good and funny thread, especially when people are trying not to be funny.
However, it's just a thread with a dumb nerd in it. My big list of links is intended to point to things we can't easily find every day, or that we might not know about. I think that if we browse more than one tiny forum of a dozen members, we can find a thread by a dumb nerd every day. We want truly crazy fuckers.
To make it to the List requires a level of batshit craziness an order of magnitude above the everyday. For example, there was once a guy calling himself Molatar, who claimed to be a reincarnated dragon with the love of Jesus in his heart, and his site had classics like,
QuoteThis site is dedicated to spreading the Gospel in the werewolf and furry communities. It is my hope that many trans-species people will accept Jesus as their Savior through this ministry. ...
You cannot make yourself righteous and holy on your own. Only Jesus can do that for you. If you are dissatisfied with attempting to be good through your own deeds and find yourself still enslaved to sin, then its time to choose Jesus as your Savior. If you are interested in becoming a Christian, please click on the salvation link to the left. Dear visitor, if you are trans-species, I can sympathize with you.
I too know the shame and anger about being trapped in a powerless and ugly human body. If you desire a shape-shift, please click on the P-shift essay link to your left and I will guide you. If you desire clarification of God's Word, please click on the salvation, essay, and bibliography links provided at left.
This is Version 2.1 of Molatar's Castle. I've re-written parts of my essay on vampires. I've removed some links to sites I no longer approve of. Much of the changes are invisible; I've been cleaning up the code to make this site faster. This dragon's been working hard. ...
I hope that by visiting my website that you will have learned something valuable. If you get Born Again because of this site, that would be even better.
Unfortunately, Molatar's Castle website must have got too much fanmail, and closed down. But that's the kind of craziness we want to see for the List - or at least the "crazy fuckers" part of it. Ordinary "I statted myself as a character, and look I have IQ 170 and am also a martial arts legend" just doesn't cut it. I can walk into any game store and meet a guy like that in thirty seconds.
We want
crazy. Like David Icke (http://www.davidicke.com/index.php/), who thinks that the royal family of the UK, and that of George Bush, are actually blood-drinking reptilians from another planet. Now
he is a crazy fucker, truly crazy. And it's rpg-relevant because a conspiracy of blood-drinking alien reptilians is just perfect for an rpg.
Added a couple of links in the "getting a game group", and one in the "talking online" section.
Nice work, my Antipodian friend.
Added links to two classic rpg.net posts by Moochava, in which he describes how sometimes a GM has to just bend the player over the table and hump his hams. Possibly the origin of the GM "I wear the Viking Hat" thing.
Added an interesting discussion of "Building a player network", for those who find there's no forum, yahoo group, club, etc for their region.

Hey Pundit, is this Sticky-worthy, and perhaps should be moved over to the roleplaying forum, since it's all roleplaying-related stuff?

I don't see why not.

I have a request for a link, because I found it once then lost it.
John Wick's classic D&D 3.0 rant about the desert and the bar being raised. He really had his shorts in a twist that day and it bacame more than hilarious to read about halfway through.
I'll do some digging on my own, but I'm sending out the word in hopes of more skilled searchers.
Is that the rant that led to the ever-famous Tale of the Wide-Chested Man?
Quote from: KenHRIs that the rant that led to the ever-famous Tale of the Wide-Chested Man?
It predates
The Last Paladin for sure, and some like to take a shot at Wick for expressing a dislike for 3.0, then doing an OGL adventure (
What's that Smell?) soon after 3.0 dropped.
I just know that Wick has only been in that kind of rhythm once since and it's already in JimBob's list.
No idea where to look for Wick's rant, but one guy was good enough to point out S John Ross's Big List of RPG Plots (http://www.io.com/~sjohn/plots.htm).
Corrected a dead link. gaminggeeks.org appears to have evapourated from online, but someone has mirrored Kate Monk's Onomastikon (http://tekeli.li/onomastikon/), her dictionary of names.

How about adding Mad Irishman's character sheets (http://www.unc.edu/~murphy/mad_irishman/)? They're very, very good.

Hey Jimbob, why don't you add http://www.d20srd.org/ (http://www.d20srd.org/)?
It's the entirety of the SRD in hypertext...it is awesome.
Thanks Joe but I'd like to avoid system-specific stuff. This is for two reasons. Firstly, because I want the links list to be one anyone can use, whatever their game system of choice. Secondly, because with at least 1,700, and probably over 2,000 rpgs ever published, if I were to go for system-specific stuff, the list would expand forever and become unusable...
Perhaps you could begin "Joe's Big List of d20 Links", since it's the most popular system (if you fold D&D into it), I'm sure it'd be worth doing, and the mods would sticky it.
dsivis, I'm still checking through those other links.

I've decided that it was time to "unstick" this thread, mainly because it hasn't been updated for some time, and because I don't want to have too many sticky threads at the top of the main forum page.

Thank you so much for the Molatar link!
A dragon/werewolf evangelical christian! Molotar is so going to be the big baddie in one of my games. Finally an excuse to run Magitech...
I totally missed my SAN roll, I know.
Added a couple of links. First to the Maps of the ancient world (http://forumancientcoins.com/Articles/Maps/Maps_of_the_Ancient_World.htm) - thanks, JongWK! ;) - and next to The Iridia Zine (http://www.iridiazine.net/issues.htm) - a general roleplaying ezine, with an occasional focus on D&D and GURPS. Most of the system-specific articles are of general use, though. Published weekly, up to issue #42 now.
The list is starting to look a bit unwieldy, I think. I'd ike suggestions for how to break down the categories a bit for some clarity. PM or email {kyle3054(at)iprimus.com.au} me, let's keep the thread itself for new links.
Added links to some gamer hookup services,
NearbyGamers (http://nearbygamers.com/), where you sign up and appear on google maps, able to see other gamers near you.
GameCircle.org (http://www.gamecircle.org), a campaign wiki, forum and contact service for Australasian gamers.

Added a link to Uncle Figgy's Guide to Good Gaming (http://web.archive.org/web/20060517174751/www.dragondogpress.com/unclefiggy/gm/intro.htm). A good general discussion of roleplaying, types of gamers, how to make a campaign, and so on. Also pretty funny in a lot of parts, if only in that, "oh god yes" forehead-slapping way, "Sometimes, though, players won't leave the group despite the fact that they're not getting what they want."
And no, JimOz from Hero Games Forums is someone else.

Okay, if this is such a good discussion, I don't know how to click on links, 'cause every one of those links leads me to one of those domain-squatting search sites.
When you hover your cursor over the link, you should see "web.archive.org". The original Uncle Figgy site is dead, this is the archived version - like Kate Monk's Onamastikon. If you go to the archived version, you'll see it fine - the text, anyway.
Ahhh. It takes actual work to get the pages themselves, and this might just be for me but the formatting is a tragedy. Still great list in general.
Strange. Simply clicking on the links works for me, and others I've talked to online. The formatting's bound to be whacked, it's an archived thing, essentially you just get the text - but the text is worthwhile.
Next time please PM or email any broken or troublesome links, so that when people see this list has popped up again, they know it's an update.
Posted a link to Caudex's excellent Streets of Shanghai (http://sos.gou-rou.com/) webpage, talking about the international city of Shanghai in the 1920s.
Also did a reorganisation of the links categories, should make it easier to zero in on what you're after. Again, suggestions are welcome.
This really should be stickied again :D
Added a link to Timeless Myths (http://www.timelessmyths.com/) - about Celtic, Norse and Arthurian myths and stories, very good for getting that flavour to a campaign. The pages are a bit scattered about, but the actual information is very good, and interesting.
I've added a new category, Games under construction. I originally said that this list was for general roleplaying resources rather than specific systems, but I think we can make an exception for games which are under development, and inviting input. The whole point of the list of links is to provide us with entertainment and inspiration, and seeing a game being built and helping to build it is entertaining and inspirational. It helps keep you gaming!
The first link in this category is MARINER (http://mariner.pbwiki.com/) - "Modern-Day Adventure on the High Seas". "... dedicated to the brainstorming and development of a modern-day roleplaying game using the classic roleplaying rules set, Traveller."
If any of you know of any other projects like this - not just rules-writing, but stuff which is open to real collaboration - please let me know by PM or email, and I'll link it up.
Great stuff, JB. I only just read this for the first time, and, well - thumbs up.
And I'm not just saying that because I'm in it.
Added a link to a pretty funny current rpg.net discussion, RPG Theory I learned from rpg.net (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=327126), with many examples of stupid shit people say about rpgs.
STICKY ME
I mean shit, just look at the viewcount on this thread!
Add me to the "Sticky Me" movement. Good job, JimBob!
Any chance I can get my own "game in progress" added to your list here?
Quote from: J ArcaneAny chance I can get my own "game in progress" added to your list here?
As I said before, I'm trying to keep the links as things which everyone can enjoy, and/or participate in; that's why I generally exclude system-specific stuff.
From a glance over your blog, it doesn't appear you're inviting actual collaboration - others can
comment, but really it's your baby. It'd be like if I ahd a blog for
d4-d4 revised - it's mine. The "under construction" section is for ones inviting open collaboration. This is different to Ian's
Mariner, where he'd be delighted if someone else would write one of the books for him, or do some conversions.
Suggested links, and any praise or criticism of the link list, should be PMed or emailed - let's keep the thread for updates.
Added a link to Alien abductions (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Shadowlands/6583/abduct.html) - like Icke's webpage, also not a roleplaying one, but with many articles on alien abductions of humans and their plans to create alien-human hybrids to take over the world. Good for a Delta Green campaign, perhaps?
Renamed "Campaign webpages" to "Campaign & setting webpages" to reflect that I'll also put in loopy stuff like Icke and this alien abduction guy - stuff which isn't actually roleplaying material, but could be.

I attended a lecture Icke gave during my undergraduate days. Let's just say the man has a...
novel interpretation of global politics.
Great fodder for gaming, though.
Added a couple of links,
- Armour Archive (http://www.armourarchive.org/), a page about armours of history with the aim of making modern examples for reconstruction or SCA.
- WWIV & Colony (http://www.jegoodrich.com/index.html), two detailed GURPS campaigns, one set in "WWIV" (the War on Terror) and the other on an alien world where humans are trying to improve local technology.
and did a check to see which links were still active, thus deleted a few dead links and corrected a couple of others.
I'm looking for a link to some
free mapmaking software, as I think that'd be useful to many of us.
I've also got a heap of historical links. These could be useful for people wanting to run historical or historically-themed campaigns, but I don't know how interested people would be? There'd be as many links again as we've already got.

Lythia.com is the one stop shop for all things Hârn. Includes a introductory PDF to HârnWorld, tons of free downloads, the HârnForum, and links to other sites: http://www.lythia.com/
Fleshed out the links about the origins of roleplaying games.
- The roots of roleplaying (http://www.acaeum.com/forum/about3888.html), in which David Wesely talks about how he invented polyhedral dice.
When you read all that, what you find out is that David Wesely created a roleplaying game by
accident, and after the session thought it was a disaster and didn't want to do it again, but his players insisted. Then Dave Arneson picked it up and added to it, made it more complex, then Gary Gygax came along and joined in and together they really started it up. Then the two of them split up and now both each claim to have started it.
So in the end, basically roleplaying was created by a guy whose condom slipped off, it's the bastard child of wargaming, and it got adopted by a same sex couple who then split up and both claim custody, one of them got custody and then had such big hopes for it that he fucked it all up and now it's a complete slut and ends up in the strangest places.
Check out Market in the Round (http://www.marketintheround.com/), a very detailed online setting.

Added a link to,
- Treasure Tables' GMing wiki (http://www.treasuretables.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page), an excellent series of articles on running game groups, preparing campaigns, and so on - also, they're written by different people so you get different points of view.
It's so good, and has so many different articles, I had to bump the thread to make sure everyone saw it ;)
Added a link to The Gaming Stories of Al Bruno the Third (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=371396) - links to a heap of stories of El Disgusto, Psycho Dave, and other crazy people Al claims to have gamed with.
My favourite is probably "Achy Breaky Mythos" beginning with the ominous words,
"The poster of Billy Ray Cyrus on his wall should have been a warning sign to all of us."
Added an historical re-enactment link, Late medieval re-enactment in Norway (http://www.frilansene.no/news.aspx), focusing on 1397-1434 - the period of the Kalmar union, when Denmark, Sweden and Norway were unified, with a particular focus on mounted combat (page in English).
Added a link to, Sounddogs (http://www.sounddogs.com/default.asp) - sound effects, mood music - worth paying a bit for, but there are 30+ second samples of everything, which should be enough for lots of moments in games.
This is pretty awesome, or maybe I just think so because I just a laptop and hope to use it at the game table :)

The Soldier in later Medieval England. (http://www.icmacentre.ac.uk/soldier/database/index.php)
From the BBC's report (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8160081.stm):
QuoteMedieval battle records go online
The detailed service records of 250,000 medieval soldiers - including archers who served with Henry V at the Battle of Agincourt - have gone online.
The database of those who fought in the Hundred Years War reveals salaries, sickness records and who was knighted.
The full profiles of soldiers from 1369 to 1453 will allow researchers to piece together details of their lives.
Thomas, Lord Despenser is the youngest soldier on the database, whose career began when he was aged just 12 in 1385.
Elsewhere, the career of Thomas Gloucestre, who fought at Agincourt, can be traced over 43 years and includes campaigns in Prussia and Jerusalem.
'Remarkable survival'
The website is the product of a research project by Professor Anne Curry of the University of Southampton and Dr Adrian Bell of the University of Reading.
Dr Bell said: "The service records survive because the English exchequer had a very modern obsession with wanting to be sure that the government's money was being spent as intended.
"Therefore we have the remarkable survival of indentures for service detailing the forces to be raised, muster rolls showing this service and naming every soldier from duke to archer."
He said accounts from captains showing how funds were spent and entries detailing when the exchequer requested the payments can be found.
The free-to-use website, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, also shows which soldiers rode the furthest.

I just created a new forum and new blog, and I have very limited experience doing this kind of thing, so please be gentle. :) Both sites will focus on roleplaying games, the PC game Rune, food, goofy animals, and whatnot. I'll be cross-posting my Random Encounter Tables at my forum, and at the citadelofchaos.net.
The forum will partially act as a wiki for my gaming campaign, and I'm going to try to convert my campaign stuff into as many gaming systems as I can possibly think of. For now, I'm starting off with AD&D and D&D 3.x.
My goal is to add as many links to roleplaying game sites as I possibly can, so it's a work-in-progress. Here are the two links, lovingly titled "Lambshack"... :)

Look into my eyes. Are you looking? You better be looking. Okay, now keep looking. You are getting sleepy, very sleepy... But not so sleepy that you cannot click here to visit RPG Freak (http://rpgfreak.forumotion.com).
Interested in unique settings? Sick of the same old thing everywhere you go? Check out RPG Freak where the genres played are a bit different from the norm. RPG Freak is a forum based play-by-post role playing site with a growing community that doesn't restrict itself to any one genre. RPG Freak is all about role playing diversity.
Currently three games open for more members, and more on the way. We have a low fantasy setting involving a search for a supposed dragon and a band of demons, a viking settler rpg in a strange new world, and a contemporary game involving a ship wreck and a mysterious island.
Don't deny your true feelings. Embrace your inner freak. Go to rpgfreak.forumotion.com (http://rpgfreak.forumotion.com)
And brag about us to all of your friends. (they'll be jealous).
If you happen to be a Scion player (I know some besides me must still exist, they've got to), you might want to give John's Scion Resources (http://www.gothambynight.com/scion) a peek. Better known to WW forum-lurkers as Gotham by Night or just GBN, it's a pretty massive compendium of house rules, supplementary powers and information, story chronicles and fan pantheons for use by anybody and everybody. Also it's very shiny.
Scion comes pretty broken out of the box, and these guys have done some impressive things with attempting to make it not only function but really make supercharged mythic heroism a fun prospect. I'm pimping them now because, while most of us that lurk on WW's Scion forums know about them, others might not and they're currently running a fan-involvement poll on their blog to see what others in the community might like to see as resources.
I've compiled a rather extensive list of fanzines distributed in PDF format. My original focus was on collecting link to zines of interest to players of old school fantasy RPGs, but I've branched out. Although I do link to a few pay-for-PDF sites I think are worth the cash, the focus is on FREE fanzines, all currently available for download.
I went through all the periodical links on rpggeek.com and tracked down current websites or links to PDFs using The Wayback Machine at archive.org. In some cases, I've collected issues at several Google Sites pages.
If I missed some zines or you find a dead link, leave a comment on the zine list:

I suggest adding more Retroclones to the OP's list:

Dark Dungeons (http://www.gratisgames.webspace.virginmedia.com/darkdungeons.html) (Rules Cyclopedia/Frank Mentzer inspired)
Adventurer Conqueror King (http://www.autarch.co/) (B/X)
I apologize if this was discussed already. I also realize that only LotFP and Dark Dungeons have free versions, but ACKS and DCC should have honorable mentions.
