This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The awesome pointy-hat wearing Magic User thread!

Hey folks, I need your help with my new campaign. I´m in the process of constructing a strategic-RC-Mystara-Hollow World-Red Steel-campaign to end all strategic-RC-Mystara-Hollow World-Red Steel-campaigns.

One part of the process is gathering imagery.

I´ve decided, that I want Magic-Users to wear pointy hats, and I want it to be a totally serious thing  for the Magic Users of Mystara.
So please point me to the pointies!

What a google image search brought up:

It seems there´s not many younger Magic-Users. Arch T. Ypus Greybeard, the 36th Level hatted Magic-User is great for Alphatian Councilmembers, but there is a desperate need for imagery of younger Casters still wearing traditional garb.

EDIT: Could one of the ADMINS change the threadtitle to the one over this post? My efforts where fruitless. Thanks!

It´s a whole new world, there´s some ultra cool campaign material in the history of pointed hats!

Duns had to leave Paris, because he was against Phillip IV!
How neat, now we have Templars in the mix!

Holy crap, I had this exact same idea yesterday after flipping through the old Ral Partha PC figures at Iron Wind Metals.

I really dig Duns´s idea that pointy hats help you to learn by channeling the info into your head.
There´s also a golden helmet used as a complex calendar from the bronze age. Thusly, I will rule that you can actually use robes and hats with stars on them as astronomical calculators.

I´m not quite sure how I´ll incorporate the Alpatian Flaems vs Airwizards into this.
Maybe only one school of wizards use the pointy hat, like the Scotists had their Dunce Cap?
Or it became a sign of pride, for the mocked Magic-users of one school?
Something like a mago-philosophical statement?

Some of the oldschool D&D artwork features awesome hats on wizards.  Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks this is cool. :D

"No, ladies and gentlemen, we don't ride around on broomsticks and wear pointy hats. Well, we don't ride on broomsticks." - Terry Bohner, member of WINC

Unfortunately I'm unable to find a screen cap from the movie. They had some seriously pointy hats.

I don't know what the original source for this is.
