This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Spycraft 2.0. Srsly.

It's D20 and MUUUCH better than D20 Modern.

(queue The Shaman in 3... 2... 1...)
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Eh, maybe.

We have that on the shelves  - but the kid specifically mentioned he wanted lots of backgrounds possible because he was going to do a Stargate kind of thing.

IF this had happened 3 or 4 years ago - I could have recommended the STARGATE D20 book that was available from AEG. Sadly, thats out of print right now.

You can do a lot more than play spies with Spycraft 2.0...

The Stargate books are still around - try Amazon, although its via their resellers rather than off the shelf.

Pelgrane's GUMSHOE system might also be worth a look.

Basic Roleplaying (the new big yellow book).  Fun, simple, and classic!  :-D

Unisystem.  Toss together some Conspiracy-X, Witchcraft, and maybe a AFMBE book for good measure and you have piles of ideas to steal from.  Or go cinematic with a Buffy/Angel fest.

well really, to give them what they wanted and something STILL in PRINT and not a PDF, I would have pushed TRUE20 or Spycraft 2.0 both are in print and available to a FLGS.  They could order a print copy of Modern20 online, I haven't seen one in a FLGS yet though.   And I would have listed them by complexity, as so;

easy 1) Modern20
Moderate 2) TRue20
Harder 3) Spycraft 2.0

I would also put GURPS 4e somewhere between 2 & 3 above.

I've really liked the rules for Twilight 2013.  They're a bit intimidating when you first look them over, but after a few rounds of combat, it gets very easy.  The only downside to it, is that there isn't a fantasy/magic element there, but the system is simple enough to create one from scratch with ease.
