Anyone play Tephra and able to comment on it? I like how the preview and art looks, but the reviews online are pretty lacking beyond 1d12 plus attribute and that character creation is flexible and a mix of simple and complicated.
How does the magic/steampunk system, if any, work?
Thanks!
Dunno, but it's included in one of the $25.00 DTRPG bundles raising money for RAINN.

That's how I found it. I don't really want anything else in the bundle, but Tephra looked interesting. I guess I'll get the base PDF and read it.
Interesting system. A lot, a whole lot, of fiddly bits to the system. Everything is based on skills an specialties (particular actions you can take related to a skill) powering the character's attributes.
There's no real magic system. A lot of the specialties let you do magic-like things. Being steampunk, the emphasis is on science, which has several categories (Alchemy, Armsmith, Automata, Bio-Flux, Engineer, and Gadgetry).
The system mechanisms are simple (opposed D12 plus attribute). But there are a lot of moving parts around that mechanism.
What the fuck is a tephra?!

Wikipedia says it's a kind of volcanic rock--fragmented material from a volcanic eruption.
