This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Damn, going to have to hunt down a bunch of these mecha RPGs now to suss them out. I still don't see myself playing one, but they sound mechanically interesting at least.

Quote from: Omega on December 17, 2024, 09:03:58 PMThe old Robotech/Macross RPG handled it well. A mech combat played out much like a dungeouncrawl combat,  just with everyone effectively a ranger. Combats in that could move along pretty well really and it is no different with Mekton.
One thing is that Robotech RPG was pretty much a theater of the mind style RPG. I remember making some house rules so long ago for map combat with it. It was a little challenging as some units moved anywhere from 5 mph to mach 2. I used the ruined Pittsburgh map from one edition of Gamma World as it seemed fitting. The game also lacked any construction system. And there were some other oddities like Veritech fighters having more MDC than a tank.
If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest person, I will find something in them to be offended.

They're all not in the 'old' category; Battle Century G, Lancer, and a few others were all made in the last decade.

Anyone, anyone? Bueller?
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Yeah, the ones I knew (as in I've paged through them) are Lancer and Gamma Wolves. I knew there were Robotech, Heavy Gear, Mechwarrior etc RPGs but never saw one in the wild.
