Interesting take on it.

I found TSR's take on Arabian Knights style magic and setting with Al Qadim fairly interesting. The Sha'ir in particular were a relly out of the box approach to spellcasting. Having a gen go off and get something to replicate the spell effect you just wished for. Just dont ask WHERE they got it from and be sure to keep your gen happy else might lose it all.
