This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: TNMalt;1024553Can't wait for it to be released to the general public. Any chance we could see the table of contents? Or a backer's review of the PDF?

Lemme see if I can help with that... Here you go.

Wow, judging by the previews this the nicest presentation of Tal I've ever seen. I will have to get it at some point.

Tenbones, thanks for bringing this up, and congrats on your envolvement on the project.

Thanks!

It's a streamlined but a very different take on Talislanta before the great kingdoms and city-states arose. It's very primitive with all the weird glory of Talislanta intact.

It's been a great pleasure of mine to be a part of it. I've been with Tal in my own gaming group since those first ads appeared in Dragon... I felt if I was going to get back into doing game development I'd only work on projects I really was inspired by, or were my own creation. Talislanta and Cyberpunk were at the tops of my list.

One has been checked off... the other... working on it. Just keeping the ball moving down field.

Is there going to be an Archaen book coming at some point?  It would be awesome to have some of those high level Magics to sprinkle in.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Hi CR -Good question. :) I guess you could say that it depends on demand, or more specifically, how Talislanta: Savage Lands is received. So far, everyone who's sen the previews has had very positive things to say about TSL. The Kickstarter certainly raised enough money to produce the ful-color book, along with a number of extras (webcomic, graphic novel, dice, etc).  I think that once the book becomes available through retail outlets, we'll find out if people like the idea of expanding the Talislanta milieu into other eras or not. I agree with you, though  - I think an Archaen age Talislanta book would be pretty awesome. It would also be fun ot go from what is essentially a "no-magic" game to an "all-magic" game :)

Quote from: tenbones;1024384Yeah - the idea was for things to be more emergent in play. There IS magic - but they're treated as skills (Primitive Magic Rituals in the Skill section). More ritual than traditional Talislanta spell-casting because that knowledge has been lost.

Keeps the post-apocalyptic feel. And if one really were inclined, you could shoe-horn any of the traditional Talislanta magic-systems into the game without missing a beat. That was completely by intent from the outset.

I love that approach. I only had to resolve a small issue with KS/BK, and now I can read it for myself:D!

It would make a wonderful bookend to the whole thing, Steve.

I think it would be an interesting - and  extremely crazy - setting for an RPG. Could be fun :)

Quote from: tenbones;1024038There's a D&D 5e version that will be coming soon as well.

That's interesting. And clever of them.

Okay! So for those that didn't back the KS - some news of potential interest.

Talislanta: The Savage Lands is finally in print. These are proof-copies for the final sniff-test for errors (which some have been found) before the hardbacks are done. Then this bloody glorious game will be made available.

This is the D&D 5e-ruleset edition. The D6 edition and Classic Talislanta edition are also in proofing. Book clocks in ~244-pages, is full color and has an index. It is a standalone game - has a bestiary in the back, lots of playable races. NO ELVES. Mass-combat rules. Tribal-level gameplay. Crafting.

If anyone has any questions about the content, system, etc. I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks much: as a non-KS-backer, but long-time Tal (1e - 3e only) fan, is the PDF available now?

Not yet. But I believe they'll be available once the print copies are. They're making final corrections now. So pretty soon!
