I was told by Stewart that this wouldn't be an issue. That should be the case, because all the TSL source/setting material and artwork (except for the new 2-pager) and the 5e conversion are complete. As I understand it, i's just a matter of doing stat-conversions and altering TSL's archetypes so that they fit with the new system's character types/professions/etc. Stewart has enough people working on each conversion that this should go pretty quickly.

SW and PF will certainly expand the playerbase for the setting, and get TSL in more hands.  Plus, now we have Savage Savage Land, so it's a win-win. :D

Yep.

It'll be nice to introduce a whole lot of people to the setting. The Savage Lands is almost perfect in concept for Savage Worlds. Classic Talislanta would work great with those mechanics as well. I'm not directly involved with the Savage Worlds conversion yet (it's being handled in-house at Nocturnal, but Stewart said he might me to give it a review once things get nailed down). I think it's in good hands.

I want to know why TSL core system or TSL savage worlds.

I am especially interested in combat. Is TSL a setting where heroes vs. army of mooks is a thing so SW is a good choice? And how deadly combat in the core system?

TSL Core will give you the feel of what Talislanta is supposed to be about from the creator's mind himself. It's a solid system and it expresses the conceits of the setting very well. Lots of survival related stuff but a lot of wonder. In D&D terms it's a bit like "Let's pretend the Expedition to the Barrier Peaks was blown out into a full campaign as lensed through the eyes of the Barbarian-appropriate classes" Only it's not overtly as "technological" - there are automatons, and "golem-mechs", and the magic of the ancients to be discovered to give your tribe the edge it needs to survive.

Savage Worlds - if you're familiar with the Savage Worlds system, you know what you're getting. It's *extremely* well suited to handle the TSL setting. I haven't had a chance to look at the early drafts of the SW ruleset, but I've seen the previews Alan has put out (they're available to everyone on the KS) and you can see he's got it under control. He's captured the "essence" of the races from the TSL core rules and from what I've seen, he's been pretty spot on. I'll know more when he sends me the complete draft to look at and I'll give him my thoughts.

TSL Core rules can be deadly. No more deadly than classic Talislanta, but at least here, you know the core conceit is about survival, and that means COMBAT. In general you're gonna need to know how to fight and the system will push you to be well rounded in terms of having the right survival skills. But there is also the Tribal rules component which will encourage you to enhance your tribe. The TSL core rules don't use "mooks" because its supposed to be a little more tactile. You can switch to group-combat with the Tribe rules as necessary, but in terms of the core individual rules, it doesn't use mooks. That said, if you're a combat-monster, everyone is a mook.
 
Since Savage Worlds already uses Wildcard rules, yep, you'll get mooks. And you'll waste'em by the scads if you're built for it. SW is a bit more "cinematic" than TSL core. In mechanical feel - they're in the same weight-class, just slightly different expressions on getting there. My *general* opinion is TSL core is more gritty. SW is a little more "swashbuckly" - but they're both deadly once the weapons come out. And they will come out.

Once of the interesting things that may not be obvious is the need for crafting and learning. Most races in TSL are illiterate - so there is a nice advantage to playing one of those races that aren't for exploring the ruins of the Archaens. Another big thing is crafting. Getting good gear requires scavenging (of course) but learning how to craft your own gear and where to harvest rare components for those with the knowledge to out them to best use is a big advantage, not just for you, but for your tribe.

TSL should appeal to those that like sword-and-sorcery without some big honkin meta-plot. This is a setting where you're literally given the task to build the world anew from the post-apocalyptic remains. Or give yourself a good showing before you get eaten and return to the circle of life. There is a lot of rich history, but it's obfuscated by the primitive nature of the tribes that have risen from the ashes. the world is *dangerous*, you have every reason to take precaution with anything not of your tribe. Because it's tribe-centric, you have a built-in reason for everyone to get along. Your lives depend on it implicitly. So TSL can be very pick-up and go without a lot of backstory required.

Looking forward to having you guys check it out, and hopefully it'll bring more fans to Talislanta, a setting I feel was way ahead of it's time (like Tekumel).

So does this mean that the system in TSL is bulked up a bit compared to Talislanta 4/5?  Or am I just missing something in Tal4/5 because I've only been reading it and haven't played it yet?  Because Tal strikes me as much, much lighter-weight than SW.

Kickstarter estimated delivery dates say September 2017 for PDF, January 2018 for print.  From what I've gathered in discussions here, it sounds like the core-system draft is complete, or close to it, aside from art, so I'd expect it to at least be fairly close to completing on schedule and I'll be rather surprised if I don't have at least the original three PDFs (and probably all five) in my hands by the end of the year.

Was Talislanta the game that used to have ads in The Dragon saying, "No elves!" or something like that? I think I saw a copy in the used shelf of the local game store a while back. I had no idea it was still a going concern. Is it still being done by whoever created it way back when?
