This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

System Troubles (The Hybrid System)

I'm looking to run a science fiction game in a homebrew universe lately, and as such I've been looking at generic rules systems and just drooling over them. At the same time, I find myself shying away from a number of them for various reasons. I find myself whishing for some easy way to cherry-pick from them. If anyone else could help me, I'd be very appreciative. And if this would be better in design, so be it.

In any case, the game I'm looking to run is heavily transhuman and very much defined by "kewl" powers and technology. There are cyborgs, psychics, mutants, mecha... you name it. As such, I think Tri-Stat would be such an awesome way to go. It really has its focus on such things, with mundane stats taking kind of a backseat.

At the same time, I recently found that free PDF with the basic rules for True 20 (Levi, your name was on it; as an aside, you fucking WIN) and I love the whole "build a class" bit, and the whole system of advancement outside of that. However, it kind of lacks the whole cool powers appeal that tristat has... on the whole I found the provided feat trees a little dull. In another game maybe, but not here, y'know?

I'm only familar with GURPS through the free PDF version and through my copy of the Hellboy RPG. Quite frankly, the thing scares the shit out of me.

In any case, I'd like to find a way to cross T20 and Tristat's respective virtues as cleanly as possible. Tristat combat system mixed with DnD movement and AoO rules if at all possible. The wound levels don't agree with me. Also a diverse skill system (as per Tristat) that doesn't require the odd variable skill costs. And some stuff.

An equipment listing with prices... and a good, solid system for handling PC wealth (any system really) would also be appreciated.

I've got my own ideas, which I'll post when more collected, but I wanted to know if anyone's tried anything like this... or if it's been done in its entirety and I just need to order the book from somewhere.

GURPS shouldn't scare you .

Sounds like you need a copy of TRANSHUMAN SPACE /Canging Times and a copy of ULTRA-TECH.

GURPS as Koltar said wouldn't a bad choice. I could see how it might be a little overwhelming to the unfamiliar though.
I would suggest the Fuzion System. The fuzion system has plug-ins so to speak for super powers, mental abilities, mecha, and etc.
Another way to go (and I cant believe that I of all people a suggesting this). But D20 modern/future might be the way to go for you. Its got the D&D movement and stuff you are looking for. The books have all the powers, mecha and stuff.

Fuzion is quite alright for this, if you can get your hands on it, Masterbook might be worth a try.

You totally beat me to it. :)

It also sounds like if GURPS is looking a little heavy for you, you might do well to consider GURPS Lite (if that was really obvious, and you already have, my apologies). I mean, really, with that, you can pick and choose what you want and what you don't. Feats/Powers would be served in part by your Advantages and Disadvantages.

If that's still not working for you, consider JAGS (pick a version that works for you) as well. There's plenty of free source material there to boot!

Hey! I suppressed my urge to recommend Heroes Unlimited, Truth & Justice, or MSH! I'm beating Wushu Syndrome! :D

I saw the title of the thread and thought you were actually going to try and run Hybrid.

Thanks for the help... now to see if I can figure out how to order these things online. Damn "transaction denied..." Ragh. Let's see if I can figure out what's wrong...

Anyways, what I've seen of the fuzion system looks impressive thus far. Can't wait to check out F20 in more detail.

I know fuzion was one of the inspirations for F20. I used to publish it before the author formed Chine Games, and co-wrote Aquavita and Tribes of Mother Night using it.

I looked this game up and couldn't find much on it... what is it? Is it any good? Is it scifi?
