This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yeah the Trudvang games are the further evolution of Drakar och Demoner. Of course recently there's been a lot more interest in the older game, several different companies doing various homages to the editions from the 1980s. Forbidden Lands is one of those, but there are several others, even one put out by the company that owns the DoD name (it is not considered particularly good however).

Quote from: Blankman;1091369Old Drakar och Demoner (Dragons and Demons) started out as pretty much a straight port of the Magic World part of the Worlds of Wonder box set from Chaosium. So it is a BRP system, similar to RuneQuest or Call of Cthulhu. Eventually however, the system drifted.

One of my patrons is from Sweden and was very familliar with Drakar och Demoner. They much prefer the older versions and at a glance so do I. I like percentile systems.

Quote from: kanePL;1091365It looks good, the art is awesome and feel I got from it was very positive. Anything you can tell about the system? I saw some percentage rolls and d6s involved, but obviously I can uderstand shit. Buddy of mine reminded me that he ordered Ruin Masters and it apparently is a new version of Drakar och Demoner?

THIS IS SO COOL!

Well, Ruin Master is made by Riotminds who tried to "reboot" the old Drakar och Demoner BRP rpg, but with new illustrations, some new rules, etc. I was so disappointed when I bought that game (their Kickstarter was very successful though). I felt they totally missed the mark with it and it felt sloppy and rushed. But Riotminds own the trademark Drakar och Demoner and apparently think they own the rights to the gameworld (Ereb) Altor. So their new schtick was a box called Ereb Altor, but the world was now called Kaldorax or something. The old world had been drowned by the seas, or something like that. I don't think the project has been launched yet, but I feel they are milking an old trademark beloved by many older Swedish gamers and in the process tainting it.

In short, I fear that the project you mentioned, Ruin Masters, is just a cash grab aimed at an English-speaking market where Swedish rpgs have gotten some good attention lately.

Welcome! Speaking of Sweden; the Swedish Western RPG (Western Rollspelet) made me curious. Have you tried it?

Welcome new members! :) Shall we join in a rousing rendition of the national anthem of your peoples?

It's still the best thing that came out of the Eurovision contests! :p

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Have you followed Swedish news for the last tens years or so?

Sweden has been conquered and the Swedes are to busy burying their heads in the sand to take notice.

Yes, I have the newest version, Western IV (I also had the very first by Lancelot games and Western III). The art is great and the game is great too, although the chase rules are quite complex so we have skipped them (well, there haven't been any classic ingame chases either). The game can be a bit meaty at times as far as rules go, but I love the genre so I don't mind it. As you might know they have successfully kickstarted and are now working on the English version of the game, but their pace might be bit slow due to serious illness. It's basically a couple who runs it all, and the wife has cancer. Whatever happens I hope they manage to get the game out to the English speaking market.

Well, I would rather hear something by Entombed, At the gates, Dissection, Morgana Lefay, Bloodbath, Necrophobic, Unleashed or Firespawn if I had the choice, lol.

Interesting! Thanks for the info. I can read Swedish, so I might look into the earlier editions if I can get my hands on them.

Every edition gets more complex, so which one you should look into is probably best based on what level of rules complexity you are comfortable with. Western IV is very heavy. Western III notably less so, especially in character generation, and Western I is much much lighter (although not really a light game per se).

Since I've been banned multiple times for not being inclusive/non-SJW/PC and now feel I have to walk on eggshells when posting on Swedens largest rpg-forum I have now decided to seek refuge here. When it comes to English rpgs I mostly play Call of Cthulhu. I love everything horror. See you in some thread somewhere.

Ahh A fellow compatriot in exile(self-imposed in my case). I  am very well aquatinted with forum you refer to. For a time Big Purple was a refeuge(sic!) in comparison to the nuthouse you got banned from. Then Big Purple catched up and here we are.

Tack för välkomnandet! Yeah, I heard stuff about the other English forum and it sounded just the same as the Swedish one, where a few elitists/self proclaimed hbtq-champions/genderfluids dictate what is ok or not. This forum seems better for my nerves.

As a Swedish tabletop gamer I'm a bit worried about how the new Swedish version of Chock (Chill) and the Swedish rendering of Call of Cthulhu will be like since some of those holier-than-thou people from the Swedish forum have become a part of the production team.
