This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I used to spend hours a day trawling through RPG blogs for content. Sadly many blogs are long dead or like Hereticwerks (and its awesome Wermspittle setting) have vanished completely. Some of the best game content never gets published and is found only on blogs. Some of that content is lost forever. Giving even a dollar a month shows bloggers that you read and find their content useful. The following are active Patreon accounts I know about. Let us know about others. Encourage your favourite bloggers to open accounts so we can support them.

Evan Van Elkins (In Places Deep blog, Nightwick Abbey)

I'm happy to read and praise his stuff. And sometimes watch him on Youtube. Actually giving him my own money might be a step too far - the guy is incredibly abrasive, and can get pretty pompous too. No denying his talent though!

Out of curiosity I did some math. He's doing pretty well.

He's getting $1,155 per blog post via Patreon, and from a quick skim it looks like he churned out 13 in August. Assuming he's getting at least 8 per month on average, that's a 6 figure income before website ads or being paid for his writing in any other way. (Since it's not like blog writing has major costs involved.)

But I do agree - The Alexandrian is pretty dang useful.

My favorite blog is Untimately (now Necropraxis). He tends to just throw out a bunch of half baked, but brilliant, ideas. I based my entire OD&D magic system on a few off-hand comments he made.

This is my go to for getting some inspiration for running a game.
