Superhero Cities: Do you need one in the core book

That stuff can always be a good thing.
And I don't need to pay good money to a gaming company to do that.  Even presuming my memory's so faulty as to not know those things about my home city, bop over to Wikipedia and you can get that stuff in vastly greater detail than any supers citybook has ever managed, free of charge.

Never mind that the players know the lay of the land as well.  When, in running a supers group out of Boston, I said that they heard a report of the villain Rampage collecting hostages at the Park Street subway station, each and every one of them knew where that was, how quickly it would take them to get there, what the layout of the place was, and what sort of obstacles and impediments there'd be to a fight there.
This was a cool site, until it became an echo chamber for whiners screeching about how the "Evul SJWs are TAKING OVAH!!!" every time any RPG book included a non-"traditional" NPC or concept, or their MAGA peeners got in a twist. You're in luck, drama queens: the Taliban is hiring.

I recall Champions New Millennium, which was primarily a setting book and secondarily provided a rules set alternative to standard Champions. Oh, and Superhero 2044, which flopped. Silver Age Sentinels and Aberrant, I'm not sure.

DC Heroes and DC Universe had very brief articles on key cities, saving detailed treatment for supplements. I don't think Heroes Unlimited described a particular city.

The games I've actually played a lot - V&V, Champions, Marvel Super Heroes, Superworld - did not have a city writeup in the "core book."

So, I would say the answer is no.
And we are here as on a darkling plain  ~ Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, ~ Where ignorant armies clash by night.

Honestly, I was glad that Supers! Revised ditched the sample city from the original Supers! book. It wasn't really needed; I prefer having the space for animal stats and mook stats and PC archetypes.
