This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Man, forget GenCon! Lake Geneva is where its at!

Aren't you sick of working so much?

Dude. I'm calling in sick tomorrow just to go see Spider-Man 3.
Download Secret Santicore! (10MB). I painted the cover :)

You better fucking believe it!

I think my wife is sick of me saying, "man, I need a fucking day off" every frigging day!

There are lots of complications working in BOTH a government office AND a union shop.  Thre is a hireing freeze right now, and we are working without a contract (but don't worry, they say we'll have one by November  ).

3 guys are out for medical reasons and surgeries (carrying mail really wears the body down), and we were already short one guy (who couldn't be replaced because of said hiring freeze.

We CAN get "casual" employees to fill the gap, but they usually go through the 2 week training, then work for one week and decide they can't hack it and quit...then the slot gets snapped up by another post office (there are only so many slots for casuals in a district).

So, yeah, everyone I work with is pretty wore out mentally and physically.  Seriously, something needs to happen soon or someone is going to go nuts! (don't say it!!;))

[edit]...oh wait, that was a pun, sorry for the rant!

Quote from: grubman:eek: What, have you been role playing, like, a year ;)?

Nope, I only know Gary Gygax.  Shrug, I dunno what else to say

Perhaps most of them enjoyed their 'glory days' before you got into the hobby?  (Just guessing here; I don't know how long you've been gaming.)

· Frank Mentzer
Most famous for the 'red box' Basic D&D Set (the one with the Elmore cover of a fighter engaging a dragon) and its subsequent box sets (Expert, Companion, Masters, and Immortals).   Essentially, he made 'classic' D&D a complete game, covering levels 1-36.

· Tom Wham
In addition to some great cartoons, he designed all kinds of board games for TSR (and smaller ones for Dragon) in the 1970s and 1980s (including one of my favourites, 'Planet Busters').

· Darlene
Some of her illustrations can be found in the original Dungeon Master's Guide.  She also drew the original Greyhawk maps (generally considered to be both attractive and useful).  More recently, she composed the regional map for EGG's 'Yggsburgh' setting.

· Rob Kuntz
Co-DM in Gygax's original D&D campaign, Kuntz also co-authored Blackmoor.  He also authored some classic A/D&D modules.

· Casey Christofferson
The 'young one' in the pack, Casey has written a lot of stuff for Necromancer games (he helped with the 'Wilderlands' box set, 'Bard's Gate', and various other products).  He's also writing the 'Haunted Highlands' series of modules for C&C.

Christmas Ape

Come to the Lake Geneva Con, where it's always 1982! :D

I kid 'cause I love. Seriously. All praise to the grandfathers and all, but this thing is so incredibly far out of my way.

I'm kind of hoping for a con I just can't miss not much farther than Seattle, and even that's about $150 to ship me & the girl across the water and back. Stupid island.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.
"There is a general risk that those who flock together, on the Internet or elsewhere, will end up both confident and wrong [..]. They may even think of their fellow citizens as opponents or adversaries in some kind of 'war'." - Cass R. Sunstein
The internet recognizes only five forms of self-expression: bragging, talking shit, ass kissing, bullshitting, and moaning about how pathetic you are. Combine one with your favorite hobby and get out there!

I can't seem to find any information on the website regarding the location of the con.

Am I just blind?

A glorious game, but my fave was Elefant Hunt. :D

It's at the Cove in Lake Geneva.

It's easy to miss.

I'd love to attend something like this. I think the last time Gygax attended a Brit convention was some time in the 80's.

Gunslinger

One of my co-workers is the nephew of Dave "Diesel" LaForce, former artist and cartographer for TSR.  He didn't think anyone had ever heard of Lake Geneva.  :D   He was really shocked when I pulled out my Marvel Superheroes RPG, I carry it with me, and showed him his uncles name.  As a little kid he use to hang out with some of the fathers of RPGs and he didn't think anything of it.

Maybe that is what is was.  Because I didn't start gaming until the mid to late 80's.

Thanks for the info, it's kind of interesting hearing who all of these people are.
