Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: SineNomine;442118I wouldn't be surprised if an SRD for it appeared once I get a chance to really figure out what I'm doing; I've been pushing hard to get the monthly Mandate Archive freebies out, plus more for-sale content. I'm a fan of the OGL in the general sense- my next project is Red Tide, a sandbox setting for Labyrinth Lord with tools to help a GM handle the model- but I want to do things up properly. As for fan sites and non-commercial stuff to share, people should consider themselves encouraged to gin up whatever they like.

So you're not opposed to either a) releasing it OGL or b) licensing the system for publishing?

Could be fun to put out some ready to play things like star bases, planets, factions, NPCs, ships, maps et al.  Also mini settings that would plug into anyone's game.

I roll to disbelieve.

Speaking as a full on swine/pundit hater, no one here has less call to defend the pundit than I, however he has always been up front about the policy of requiring a hardcopy to do reviews. Truthfully I can't blame him, he does an exceedingly thorough job; and I, for one, would not want to go into the level of detail he does without having a physical copy to reference.  In fact, i would go so far as to say, if your game isn't compete ass, the pundit is doing you a favor by reviewing it; he obviously puts in hours of labor for his "free" book.  Go to the review forum and read a couple of his entries, they are uniformly excellent- and if you want to see the real dude that lurks behind the troll, that's the place to look for him.
You are posting in a troll thread.

Unfortunately, I get so many requests for reviews that if I accepted PDF reviews, the backlog would stretch to five years from now.  So while when I was just starting to do reviews I accepted PDFs, nowadays I've had to limit to print only, in order to make sure a review comes out in something resembling a reasonable time, and to make sure I'm not absolutely flooded with requests.

Remember, I review 100% of all products sent my way (within the specified parameters), and the review is thorough and fair, and gets released in two major places at once, then has at least subsequent re-releases as archival material down the road.

Most publishers who've sent a book my way have found it to be their money's worth.

Well put and thank you for that moment of honest assessment.

The fact is there's some pundit-haters that just can't accept it, particularly those who don't like that I accomplish what I say I will, that I get what I want, and that I'm a subculture celebrity while they aren't.

On a related note, I've now been informed that a review copy of SWN is headed my way.

You write solid reviews. I've no complaints there.

Thanks for the explanation. It makes a lot of sense.

Speaking of a print version of Stars Without Numbers. My POD hardcover version made its way all they way out to the other side of the planet to my place in Australia yesterday.

Just in case anyone was interested on the quality..

The actual hard cover of the book is brilliant (both in looks and quality), sadly I had to spend about 30 minutes or so carefully separating the first 20 pages or so of the book from each other as they weren't guillotined correctly (fortunately patience and a sharp sculpting scalpel took care of the issue).

I skimmed the rest of the book to make sure all was in order, the printing was all good and very readable. Another thing to note, my wife pointed out that the paper was of pretty mediocre quality (felt just like your standard paper you would get for your own printer at home), an opinion that I had to agree with.

I am, however, looking forward to gaming with it :)

SineNomine

Speaking of hardcopy, if you want a print copy of SWN, now's the time to get it. Until March 7th, DTRPG's doing a GM's Day sale week, and everything's in Sine Nomine's catalog is cut 25%. That means a softcover copy for $14.99 and a hardcover for $18.74.

After the week is over, however, prices are going to revert to MSRP- $24.99 for the softcover and $29.99 for the hardback. I've tried to keep them down as long as I could, but when trade discounts average 50%, I'm pretty much ensuring that I have no chance of getting them distributed at the former prices. I'd be paying distributors to take the hardcover. PDFs will remain at their old pre-sale prices, however, and when I put out my next combo PDF/paper product, they'll be bundled with the paper for no added charge.
