This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Stars Wars D20 vs Revised Star Wars D20

I got rid of my Star Wars D20 core book when SAGA was released. I recently had someone give me a copy of the Revised core book and several supplements. I don't remember much about the first edition of the game. Were there significant differences between the two versions?

There were pretty significant differences, not so much in the system (though there were some of these, like Revised included attacks of opportunity), but particularly in the character classes and their structure.

If memory serves, and we only found out about this years later, the d20 Star Wars Revised Core Rulebook came out only because WotC was under pressure by Lucasfilm to release a game concurrent with Attack of the Clones. So it isn't surprising that it is weaker in comparison to SAGA edition.
"Meh."

I'd say the most significant change to the system was making armor do DR.

:hmm: "A Solid d20 Science Fiction game" - I didn't think about it that way. Indeed, I'll agree on that. It's actually a very solid d20 scifi game. We're getting so used to thinking about Star Wars and comparing to Saga in terms of emulation that it's easy to miss that point. Good one.

As to the supplements. Some are totally awesome. The Galactic Campaign Guide is full of very cool advice and include tons of set pieces, enemies, etc. It's a good tool kit that is usable with Saga also, really, if you're not too picky on the mechanics.

Now, the Ultimate Aliens Anthology... it is absolutely brilliant. Nothing to say there. It's just exactly what it says on the covers. Ultimate. Aliens. Anthology. Totally usable with Saga as well.

The other excellent Star Wars supplements are the "background" ones. Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds and Coruscant and the Core Worlds in particular. These guys should provide enough ideas to the Star Wars GM for the campaign to last quite a while.

Agreed here.  I have the RCR, but I don't use them.  I DO, however, keep the Ultimate Aliens Anthology and the Galactic Campaign Guide with my Saga Edition books for their utility.  I also referenced the Secrets of Tatooine (my son's game is currently on Tatooine) and Naboo books, as well as the Dark Side Sourcebook as needed.
