This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone still playing the Stargate RPG?

TT.

Dr Rotwang!

My wife....my wife is a huge Stargate nerd AND a gamer.  Thus, we own everything for it.  Unfortunately, we don't play it.  Time is  factor...and the d20 rules are another.  I'd love to run/play a Stargate SG-1 game, but it'd be with another rules set.

I have just ordered the SG main rule book from a gaming warehouse. They say they can still get it from one of their suppliers. I am hoping to run a Stargate campaign mid year. There is a few people interested in playing from the local gaming club. After I have the main book, I will try and track down the rest of the books. I have my fingers crossed.

Hey DR Rotwang, I forgot to ask if you own the Stargate board game. It is a real little "gem" ......
I was disappointed when I opened my copy and read the rules - a VERY basic game. I have never played it.

And thanks for the welcome. I should also mention that my wife is a Stargate fan but sadly a non gamer. She has watched all of SG-1 and Atlantis (but will not game....yet).

Sure thing, Tim.  We skipped on the boardgame for financial reasons; now we have another reason to save our money.  Thanks!

Have fun playing, and let us know how it goes with that system.

You guys could just use either the SAVAGE WORLDS or GURPS rules - and make up the rest on your own.

I thought about using the Gate's look and props for an INFINITE WORLDS campaign. Instead of different planets and solar systems - the gate network would go to different timelines and dimensions.

I still play Fringeworthy . . .
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Would have been keen to see the d6 version of Stargate see the light of day.
I start from his boots and work my way up. It takes a good half a roll to encompass his jolly round belly alone. Soon, Father Christmas is completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is not quite so good as wrapping Roy but it is enjoyable nonetheless and is certainly a feather in my cap.

There's a new version (4th edition) due out soon.  Currently CD only and done for D20, but it's going to have a lot more information than the earlier editions.

If your wife were a true Stargate fan she'd take the books and convert the setting material into some more sensible and light system!

Ease up there, chief--don't go talkin' smack on my wife!  She tried converting, figured it wasn't really necessary, and says she'd rather just use Fudge.

What is fringeworthy? I have been out of RPG for about 10 years.

Google is your friend. Fringeworthy is more than 10 years old, so you have no excuse :)

Thanks Kyle. I have now read about Fringeworthy and the story sounds simular to Stargate. Not 100% sure about the type of rule system it uses.
I am thinking about getting SpyCraft 1 or 2, instead of the Players Hand Book for level experience, feats etc. I know Stargate was written using the SpyCraft 1 rules, so that is what I am leaning towards. Anyone got any experience using Stargate with SpyCraft?

Fringeworthy's original system is pretty Palladiumy. Every time I try to discuss it, people rip the modifiers it uses for hydrostatic shock. I guess it's been dismissed, but there was a period where ballistics analysts thought there might be something called hydrostatic shock. So Tri Tac came up for a rule for it. Perfectly good idea at the time, like a lot of their rules. But they aren't exactly on the cutting edge anymore.

I don't have specific experience running StarGate with either SpyCraft, but all of my experience with SpyCraft indicates that 2nd ed is vastly superior to 1st, fwiw.
