This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Palladium doing Crowdsource Funding

Quote from: The Butcher;514983Absolutely. I hope this doesn't happen because, to the best of my understanding, one of the biggest reason Palladium has survived all the vagaries of the market is due to a (relatively, in market terms) small, but very faithful cadre of fans.

If KS alienates the fans' goodwill and faith, this might be it. And crazy as he is, I wouldn't want to see Palladium go.

The downside to a product being your exclusive property as opposed to some corporate thing is that if it does go Tango Uniform, there's only one person to blame.

Number of Megaverse® Insiders: 211 (that's every purchase, large or small).
Assuming that all 3 of the $500 Insider's sold...
That averages $92.74 per pledge.

Damn.

That's why you shouldn't underestimate the aging demographic of RPG collectors who have more money than sense. That is nearly 20 bucks above the average backing of a kickstarter. And if the three 500 Dollar perks didn't seel it is well over 20 dollar more.

Which is why AD&D gets reprinted, and 5e is so far marketed as Back to Old School ;).

Well, let's face it - at least a PART of it.

It also highlights that Palladium has a very small, highly dedicated fan base, willing to dig deep into it's own pockets.

Which has it's own merits and flaws.

5pt Merit - Loyal Audience; fans are dedicated, always willing to buy your product
5pt Flaw - Shrinking Audience; ever decreasing numbers of fans turn into shrill douchebags.

I am going with big part here. So many older gamers own more games than they could ever play and at the same time only play very rarely. Like less than once a week due to family obligations.
