Title: STARFINDER - 1st session as a player. Any Advice? Suggestions?
Post by: Koltar on November 10, 2018, 01:51:15 PM
STARFINDER the RPG

I own a copy of it, its basically a D20 system..

In about two three hours I will be a player in a Game Session of 'STARFINDER'.

Haven't been 'just a player' in years - usually I am the GM of a game session.
Also, I am mainly familiar with GURPS 4th edition when I do role playing.

Any advice?

Any suggestions or tips?

Role-play? Assuming it's a character-driven game session.

Otherwise. Just sit back and let the GM do all the talking and tell you how awesome your character is.

I am letting them give me a PAIZO pre-generated character.

well this is probably way too late but.

It's Pathfinder in space, with some simplifications. Play a warrior if you want to bash or shoot stuff. Play an operative if you want to sneak attack and have lots of skills.
Envoys are space bards, Mystics are space clerics. Technomages are space wizards.
Mechanics get either a drone or an implanted AI. I can't tell which is better, though some complain that drones are too squishy.
Solarians are Jedi/Monk kinda things with powers based on suns and singularites (black holes). They seem complicated.
Look over the spaceship crew section to see if you want to pick up a crew skill. I usually play a warrior, so I use my base attack bonus for gunnery.
You'll probably be a Starfinder, or work with the Starfinders, who are the helpful adventurer's guild kinda thing. This isn't mandatory but the Starfinders are there to facilitate space adventures, so they turn up a lot.

Roll good, and have fun. :)

Pathfinder in space feels no more appealing to me than pathfinder on land.

Pretty much the game/system/setting I've been waiting for my whole life. After a few sessions playing in the Dead Suns AP, I decided Starfinder was where I would build my ultimate homebrewed space fantasy campaign.

I've adapted it to be more of a space crawl feel, utilizing hexcrawl tools from Starships & Spacemen and space travel rules from Traveller d20.
