This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Pick a game setting, whichever one you want, now project it 100 years into the future. What would you like to imagine has happened in it? Is the setting still playable? Would it be less interesting, just as interesting, or potentially more interesting than the actual setting's temporal location?

why?

ps: please fix the quick reply button, which seems to have vanished. Thanks.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

Okay, I'll play!

Warhammer: The Empire and Ulthan have fallen and only the uneasy alliance between Bretonia, Khemri, and the Lizardmen can stand in this world where the northern realm of chaos extends right down to Marienburg.  This would be an interesting setting to play in.  The grimdarkness is very close to winning.  The dwarfs, halflings, and vampires are all but extinct.  The skaven and ogres are very nearly assimilated by Chaos.  The imperial engineers who've fled to Khemri have introduced railroads and iron clad steam ships into general use.  Yes, Khemri has napoleonic style gun lines and Cannon now.  If I wanted to shake up the status quo a bit I'd introduce a Realm of Law in Cathay and make Cathay a scary new threat that's beginning to spread rapidly.

Warhammer 40k:  We'll make this 1000 years give the scope of the thing.  The Imperium is rallying under a coalition of new and enthusiastic if not upbeat leaders.  The emperor has finally died entirely and new schools have been founded to train psychers.  The Inquisition is in disgrace and very nearly driven into hiding.  A new spacemarine legion has been formed on terra to sweep away the intercine fighting that continually drags the Imperium down.  The Tyranids have lost their momentum and are settling into their holdings besieged by da superior orkish orcology.  The old ones have returned and are fighting like mad against the Necrons in the polar regions of the galaxy.  The squats have reclaimed several worlds.  The Tau have sucumbed to chaos and now look like Evageleon rip offs but otherwise continue to behave much the same.  A wave of good feeling and positivism is sweeping the Galaxy.  Obviously Tzeechth is behind it all.

Nightbane -

The Baal-ze-necti have long sense taken over the Earth realm and killed or conquered most of its leaders. Sadly for them, the Earth is just a reflection, and the A.D.A and Nocturns have eventually succeeded in killing Moloch and Lilith.

Without strong leadership, or leadership that could pull universal support, civil war erupts on both sides. The Lightbringers and A.D.A on Earth attempt to subvert any governments they liberate while the nightlords attempt to fill Moloch's power vac.

The 100 years of travel and war have brought the mirror wall to the edge of breaking, causing global catastrophes and brought aliens and monsters from many universes to the Earth and Nightlands. Some of them may be powerful enough to attempt to control large spheres of influence.

Humans everywhere know the dangers of magic and many humans can use it because the war has increased paranormal activity a 1000 times over. The mirror wall is so thin that anyone can cross over through any mirror, but humanity now smashes or paints every mirror.

Witch hunts cold exist, looking for contraband mirrors.

Even lakes with reflective surfaces would be despoiled to prevent crossing.

In 100 years, everybody will have an IQ level where Beavis and Butthead would be considered "geniuses".  :pundit:

Spacemaster Privateers:

Anyhow, a hundred years into the future known space is ruled by a ruthless Kagoth dictatorship.  The Falar are all but extinct but the Falaron and Falaris are the top dogs after the Kagoth.  Humans and Valesians are enslaved and the Xanotasians have banded together in a single insular hivemind that fries anything that comes close to their worlds.  The Oorts have embraced the Kagoth dictatorship as the opportunities to feed their inner mad scientist without concerns like ethics simply overcomes their good sense.  Like the Falar, the Tulgar are extinct.  Androids are little used and the Dragoons died out soon after the war when their combat drugs went out of production for the big thing.

It's not a very gamable setting.  Evil and insanity have won.  Brutality and practicality are married in a society that worships science and power above all else.  This isn't a Star Wars Empire situation where some metaphysical dingus is running the show.

Okay, not familiar right?

Kagoth - Very large pascifist bear race that is sliding into insanity.  The current war is the result of a coup led by a Kagoth.

Falar - Murderous war loving lion people.

Falaron - Murderous war loving tiger people.

Falaris - Murderous war loving cat people.

Humans - Murderous war loving monkey people.

Valesians - Murderous velocoraptor people who are cowards at heart.

Xanotasians - Psychic bug people / not Thri Kreen

Oorts - Hyper Intelligent migit cousin it people.

Tulgar - Noble, heroic wolf people.

My current setting might look like this.
On weird fantasy: "The Otus/Elmore rule: When adding something new to the campaign, try and imagine how Erol Otus would depict it. If you can, that\'s far enough...it\'s a good idea. If you can picture a Larry Elmore version...it\'s far too mundane and boring, excise immediately." - Kellri, K&K Alehouse

I have a campaign wiki! Check it out!

Balbinus

Space 1889 becomes a futuristic 1920s style space opera I suspect, with electric lightning guns and mechanical men guarding the floating sky palaces of the returned Vulcanian invaders.

Sounds quite fun actually.

Frankly, if a setting isn't going to be very different in 100 years, it's probably a very dull setting.
