This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: grubmanIMHO (as I've said elsewehre) if WotC isn't working on a D&D 4th edition using the rules from Saga, they are frigging nuts.

Although I really like (or love) SW Saga edition, I feel need to stand uf for Wizards. If they are not working on D&D 4e using the rules from Saga, it is wise. Thanx to the fact, it would be absurdly easy to convert Saga edition to D&D, they can afford luxury of waiting and let people test it. But if half year from now, they would not start working, I tend to agree they are frigging nuts. :p

Quote from: grubmanThat said (my impressions), it's going to be hard to use the rules from Saga into a regular D&D game without doing a LOT of work (since the whole system has been streamlined and reworked...but for the better).

I actually tend to think, it would not be so hard. Let's just rename few classes - scoundrel -> rogue, scout -> ranger, soldier -> fighter, jedi -> spellcaster (cleric), Force -> Magic, use the Force -> spellcraft, ligthsaber -> magic sword. OK. I am little bit exaggerating, but you can see how one can make Dragon Wars pretty easy. :-)

OK...so for the uninitiated who are putting together birthday lists...

so I ask for d20 Modern, SW Saga, or both?  Are they that different?  I looked through Modern at the FLGS yesterday and liked some of the ideas.  So is SW Saga that different?  I've been thinking about SW as a way to introduce my son into RP (not necessarily now) as he's so into it. I figured if I got SW Saga, I could kill two stirges with one bolt...

Any suggestions?

D20 Modern is great, but I'd argue in favor of SW Saga for bringing a n00b into the fold.

In fact, as soon as I can get my hands on it, I'm gonna do the same thing you're planning: teach my 9-yr old how to play. She's already good enough that I have to work to beat her at Heroscape.

As for differences, yes there are -- Saga makes some fairly big changes. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see a new version of d20 Modern using the Saga changes pretty darn quick.

Oh..sure...bring another thing on my list into it...Heroscape..

I'm going to have to get birthday list advice I think...

Thanks EK!

I strongly suggest SW Saga. It is more polished, more "lite" version using everything of d20 modern but in much better way. Also I have kind of "feeling", that WotC will either dump d20 Modern forever or they will make a revison of it using the new ideas from SW Saga. Anyway I would go for SW Saga which also will IMHO suit much better to introducing child to RP. The story of SW is well known and comprehensible to almost anyone. For d20 modern you will have to produce your own, and childern tend to prefere different setting I guess.

For what you want, SW is eight billion different kinds of better than d20M.

Quote from: darmeh. The last three movies drained almost all the love I had for Star Wars. I still like watching the first movie, but I'd go stark raving mad at the first mention of meticlorians in the game.

We got a surprise delivery at the store on Monday.

EIGHT copies of it were in there.

The Street date for it Tuesday June 5th.

Ten minutes after I locked our doors and was starting the nightly paperwork - I put 7 of those STAR WARS SAGA version D20 hardbacks on the shelf.

Live in the area? We open at 10 am in the morning.
