This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I don't really like D20 for anything but D&D, and by proxy as a result don't care much for Star Wars D20.

The fact that they're talking about making it more like Modern makes me even more ambivalent, considering I find Modern to be a painfully dull mess of a game that realyl never should've been made.

J, it must be opposite day because I'm agreeing with you 95%

meh. The last three movies drained almost all the love I had for Star Wars. I still like watching the first movie, but I'd go stark raving mad at the first mention of meticlorians in the game.

I was going to pick the Saga edition up before I saw this preview.  Now that I've seen the preview, I'm going to use that money to buy something else.

I don't know what I expected, but it apparrently wasn't what the preview revealed.

Interesting.  It seems like they're taking bits and pieces from d20 Modern (the talent trees), True20 (consolidating classes into something more general and customizable), and Iron Heroes (I'm betting the simplified bad guy statting is a variation of IH's Villian Classes).  They're either onto something or they're on something...

So far, it sounds really cool.  I think the classes and power escalation of D20 are good fits for Star Wars but it's a bit too tactical.  Cleaner and simpler would be great.  I also didn't think WP/VP was good for a cinematic game because of the "oops, you're dead" factor.  I hope they fix some of the minor oddities of the earlier editions as well.

One the whole, the D6 mechanics were meh - not awful but not inspiring.  The beauty of WEG Star Wars came in the supplements that detailed aspects of the universe not previously explained.

Yes.

I think a lot of people get too attached to the D6 rules just because WEG produced some awesome supplements.  I really liked the whole char creation/template system, but the rest of the actual D6 rules were average at best.

Now, I'm not so sure D20 is the perfect system for the game, either, but I'm willing to see how the Saga edition goes.

That's pretty much where I'm at. Neither one really re-creates the feel of Star Wars (I only acknowledge the existence of the first three movies) for me. So I just shrug and play whichever...

I'm pleased people are getting a new game that they'll enjoy.

For me though, when I played Star Wars d20 it was as a game engine spectacularly un-star warsy as we whiffed our way through the adventure.

Thankfully we had a kick-ass GM, but the game engine itself was awful.  Overcomplex, fiddly and whiff-prone.

Absolutely  correct.  Only a GM and players can do that.  A game system either helps out, or it doesn't.

Which is why I think there are a lot of pro-d6 folks. I don't think it promotes the feel of Star Wars, but I do think there's less of it to deal with.

There´s nothing more Star Warsy than WEG 2nd revised and expanded Space Combat.

I'm excited about the new Star Wars!  I really didn't like revised all that much (it felt like a half-assed attempt at listening to the fans).

Saga so far looks really cool!

I like the d6 system used in WEG SW, but really (as was pointed out) the supplements for d6 SW were just great. The d20 supplements, while useful, just didn't live up to the d6 supplements.
