This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yeah, I might check it out. Its been about 4 years since the trainwreck that was my last effort at GMing a Star Wars campaign (lasted about 10 minutes into the first session...).

I'm cautiously optimistic.  I'll probably pick it up out of pure curiosity on a mechanics level.

I'm totally looking forward to this. I am PROBABLY one of the few people that thinks Star Wars and D20 are a Perfect fit.

From where I sit*, yes.

Meh. Count me as one of those that thinks Star Wars and D20 makes little sense.

I mean, eg this:

QuoteAt the same time, we worked to infuse the remaining classes with excitement and a lot of abilities. If you want to play a "fringer," you're likely to use the scout or scoundrel class, and a "tech specialist" will use the scoundrel class as well.

What the hell does that even mean? Why not just actually play a "fringer" or a "tech specialist"? Having to quantify such things using classes just ruins it for me, I'm afraid.

Well, I'm happy that you're happy. :)

I think that D20's too slow, too fiddly, and too tactical for the kind of Star Wars games i like to play. I prefer WEG's version, or the MEGS homebrew I threw together.

But the WOTC production values are hard to beat. Thanks for the link to the preview.
The only thing I ever believed in the Bible was John 11:35.

Since this will be more like d20 modern, I like it better already.

D20 Modern is still the best version of d20, IMO.

I like both for different reasons.  Moreover, it seems to me that Saga edition's working hard on overcoming the "slow and fiddly" bits.

No problemo.

I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, but the preview was interesting.  This claim in particular caught my eye:

QuoteHigh-level play is much more streamlined and efficient in Saga Edition, and combat runs just as smoothly at 20th level as it does at 1st level. Furthermore, the new character creation rules let you build a high-level NPC in 5 to 10 minutes instead of an hour. Because generating enemies and allies on the fly is fast and simple, it's easier for Gamemasters to improvise when players diverge from the planned session.

If Saga edition SW is indeed testing out ideas for 4e D&D, then these changes are extremely positive ones, as they address some of my main problems with 3e.  I'm intrigued.

You are clearly not alone, since SW D20 was one of the most successful D20 games of all time, and probably one of the most successful RPGs period.

Personally, my feeling is that SW D20 (especially the revised edition) was a spectacular emulation of star wars, far FAR better than the D6 version, which was really just a sci/fi game with SW tacked on (and loosely, at that).

Pundit, sometimes, your arguments are crystalline arrangements of logic and sense.

Other times, they're like stock footage of a Ford Model-T falling over a cliff.
