Title: Star Trek Adventures . . . er, Adventures
Post by: Dropkicker on July 19, 2020, 08:47:50 PM
Hi all,

I'm looking for adventures for Modiphious' Star Trek Adventures game which are not part of the company's Living Campaign or based on somebody's fanfic. Any ideas are appreciated.

There are two hard copy mission books available and a bunch of $5 PDFs that can be found on drivethrurpg.  The single adventures are the ones with the simple black covers and Starfleet insignia.

I guess I should have been clearer as the first stop I made was at DriveThruRPG so I already combed through those.

I had a chance to glance through one of the Strange New World hardback books a couple of weeks ago and it didn't do it for me. My admittedly brief assessment was that the adventures fell into two categories; contact with primitive races and the PC's ship breaking. There's only so many times you can run games with those two themes. Please know that I've written for a couple of RPG lines so I appreciate what goes into writing game material, including adventures. I'm not trying to be overly harsh, just supplying my background thoughts.

I converted the old Star Frontiers 'Volturnus' Modules to the GURPS Trek game I ran a while ago... are you needing rules specific adventures or are you willing to convert them?  (I don't know the rules set, sorry.)

My preference is for adventures I don't need to convert in order to save time and effort. I'm already rewriting a free adventure found on the web that was written specifically for STA because it was not playable as is.

Having said that, I will check out anything that provides good inspiration. (I'll check out Volturnus).

Volturnus specifically worked as a 'planet of the week' beam down... at some point (probably the second half?), you'd either have to trap the away team on the planet by having the ship tied up/called away etc. so give it a good read and decide how you want to handle it.

If your team is not the Kirk/Spock/Bone big three, it could be a planned drop off see you in a couple weeks.

Crash on Volturnus was in the original boxed set.

If you can find them, there's some short stories in the Starfleet Battles Captain's Logs.  Damn near any episode of Stargate can be made into a Star Trek - replace psuedo-egyptian makeup with rubber foreheads.

I was going to say the old d20 Stargate book is actually quite a nice book and has several adventures and adventure ideas that would work well for Star Trek. It's kind of amazing there isn't a thriving Star Trek Adventures community with a ton of adventures out there.

First, let me say it looks like Star Frontiers is much beloved and has a lot of support across the net. Back in the day it never jelled for me but I plan on digging through the various sites to see what I can glean.

I agree, especially for a game that's been out for a few years and is one of the biggest IPs there is.
