This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: RedFoxOverall I'm just gonna agree with Stuart on this one.  I don't think this supplement is necessary or interesting...  though the idea of a "world tour of pulp-ready cultural adventure ideas" would rock.
This would actually be better than my idea. Bruce, you hopeless douche! Do this instead!

QuoteThe only unfriendly-against-homosexuals vibe I've gotten here has been focused pretty tightly on Curt from rpg.net.  Which is admittedly off-putting, but not unexpected.
That's really more unfriendliness towards Curt, who wraps himself in his gayness like a Cloak of Blame Displacement; "I'm not a loathsome petty little jerkoff, you're a homophobe and a bigot!" Curt could be genderless, a marriage counselor, a practicing Catholic, gayer than springtime, or a violator of virgin goats, he'd still be an intolerable shit.

Shine on, Foxman. I'm pretty sure we all like you plenty.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.
"There is a general risk that those who flock together, on the Internet or elsewhere, will end up both confident and wrong [..]. They may even think of their fellow citizens as opponents or adversaries in some kind of 'war'." - Cass R. Sunstein
The internet recognizes only five forms of self-expression: bragging, talking shit, ass kissing, bullshitting, and moaning about how pathetic you are. Combine one with your favorite hobby and get out there!

I have opalescent rainbow swirly dice (which I got because theyre pretty- if your'e familiar with the Chessex dice color schemes theyre called 'Circus'), and at one slot at DDXP, the player next to me said something like "are those your Pride dice..?"

So of course I said "yes".

Quote from: David RDoes anyone know of any examples of "minorities" in Pulp - movies, books ? So, this discussion can move from an "is this a good idea" to "hey, this might actually sound interesting" discussion.

There are examples out there.
here is one: Kaliman

Edit: Don't know if this is a good example, but my take would be, expanding the role of Kato from the Green Hornet. Don't know about you folks, but Bruce Lee in an RPG Pulp Supers setting would indeed rock.

The one that rather leaps to mind is Fu Manchu, but I'm not sure it is in all respects a positive portrayal.

I saw Jeffrey in a theatre and thought it was pretty good.  Patrick Stewart as a Pink Panther was hillarious, especially in contrast to all his years as a ST captain. I guess that puts me in some sort of sexual orientation limbo? I'm not sure how I'm going to break it to the wife and kids.

Uh, well, hate to burst your bubble, but I am half-hispanic myself you know, and do live in a Latinamerican country. This is probably the least "gringo" Roleplaying board around.

Except, of course "Tio Chalupe's Foro De Los Juegos de Calabozos Y Dragones".

But is that "unfriendly against homosexuals" or "unfriendly against Curt" and his homosexual victim-baiting?

I think there's a pretty serious difference, and you and others are obvious evidence that the issue is not really about homophobia at all.

I find this whole notion very bizarre.

I just released a True 20 Wild West setting for Green Ronin... should I have spent half the book beomaning the plight of minorities and women in the period?

No player I have ever encountered really wanted those things in his game.
