This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mongoose Runequest

I haven't seen it yet myself, but I'd be curious to know what people here think of it.  The reviews of it over at RPG.net have been pretty negative/luke-warm.

I find it intriguing that Mongoose will be producing a Nehwon setting book for it...

So, is the game any good?

(I'm familiar with 2e Runequest from way back, and understand the basics of BRP from Elric!, Hawkmoon, and CoC, so comparisons with those games would be fine.)

I've got it. Still the same basic game but very streamlined. You now only have a choice between 'barbarian' 'peasant' 'city dweller' and 'noble', then a list of 'carreer' paths you can chose from. Its much faster and smoother than before, almost too much so.

There is NO setting information however. And while rune magic is fairly well detailed, none of the other six or so magic types are touched on at all, other than an honorable mention at the start of the magic chapter.  Combat is streamlined, particularly in the SR phase.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

Is there anything there for somebody who has every worthwhile RQ book ever published?

(No, Runemasters was not worthwhile.)

Droog,

No, I don't think so.  I just bought the Companion, which at less than 100 pages should have been in the sodding core book, and if you have all the existing RQ stuff this won't add much to your life.

When I was leafing through Companion at the store yesterday, I noticed a section on Reputation that looked new and interesting, though. I was hoping it would be like the large-scale mechanics in Burning Wheel (Circles, Resources, Reputation), not sure if it is.
