Title: Space Pulp based on Barbarians of Lemuria
Post by: Chainsaw Surgeon on March 30, 2025, 12:29:38 PM
Quote from: weirdguy564 on March 28, 2025, 10:38:05 AMRecently I bought Space Pulp RPG for Everywhen/Barbarians of Lemuria.  It also has dueling rules built right into the game.

I saw this pop up in the unique mechanic thread and was wondering what people thought of it.  I have played BoL and have thought about doing space opera with it.  Space Pulp is fairly new, but since weirdguy564 brought it up, I thought I would ask about his thoughts and anyone else who has given it a read.

Is that noticeably different from the Everywhen variant rules based on BoL that cover scifi?

From what I can see it is a little more focused on SciFi than Everywhen.  The author of Space Pulp authored the Psionics section of Everywhen from what I can see.

It requires EveryWhen RPG.  Space Pulp is a setting add-on instead of a complete game.  However, it's damn near complete, so the core EveryWhen rulebook is just there to flesh out the basics.

Interestingly, while it has psionics and a couple powerful types of swords, there is no Jedi Knight class archetype.  It mentions and infers they can exist but you will need to invent them yourself.

The three other big additions are dueling rules, ship rules, and planet creation rules. There are also rules for foot chases and hacking.

The psionics are separate from arcana (magic).  Both are variable enough that they can be explained as high powered super math or pure eldritch power.  It's not specific because your setting is yours to describe.

The game seems fine, quite detailed, but not for me.  I prefer Mini-Six Bare Bones or Tiny D6 Frontiers because I love rules lite games.  A 256 page add-on to a 145 page core rulebook is a bit much for me.

No problem on my end, I happen to know the owner of that forum, he's pretty cool. Or I think so.
