This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A new version of 1889 is due in 2014 using the Ubiquity system.

Quote from: David Johansen;699609It's more of a d6 dice pool engine IRRC.

It's actually two different d6 mechanisms:

"Attribute Roll/Skill Roll"
Stat or skill d6 pool, add, vs. TN. Basically Star Wars d6 without pips.

"Quick Roll"
Roll d6 under stat or skill.

The GM decides which to use, based on the flow ("tempo") of the game ("especially in the case of combat, which should be fast and furious").

I wonder how veterans handled that in actual play. Pundit?
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

Well, to answer all previous messages to me: first, I did play T:2000, its totally different from Space:1889, and I liked the latter better.

Space:1889 had a pretty messed-up system, I remember I needed to extensively house-rule (no, don't really remember what those were) just to make the combat system manageable.  But in any case, I enjoyed it way more than T:2000.

As for how to handle Space:1889 in actual play, most of the time I used the pool, except in very minor situations where I used roll-under.
